ITV 4 recently? It’s a masterclass in film making. Every scene and dialogue has purpose and meaning.

Jaws, Dirty Harry and Alien had a big impact on my 12 year old self when bored teachers put them on the VHS instead of teaching.

I never knew that you were kindred spirits with @Ruffers and I. Welcome to the club.

Think I’m staying in and having a quiet one tonight actuoh I see.

ive had to start making a concerted effort not to get distracted, but yeah i think part of the problem is watching shit films

If it’s a good film it’ll mostly have my full attention. Love watching films at home

:film_projector: :eyes:

This is absolutely where I am.

I can’t even bring myself to do it at home. I’ll happily go to the cinema on my own but at home I need someone else as some kind of psychic ballast.

Normally I’m like this, but also watched Spotlight on saturday night and it pretty much held my attention all the way through, so maybe it is at least partially that so much TV/film nowadays is superficial and easily ignorable.

I’ve covered this

Recently switched up my film viewing game because of this distraction problem.
I’ve started going to bed a couple of hours earlier than usual some nights and setting my alarm two hours earlier in the morning.
I have a TV in my bedroom so I wake up in the morning and watch a film in bed whilst having breakfast, also in bed.
I am more receptive to art and ideas first thing in the morning, so I appreciate films more. My attention is also good, and it feels amazing to start your day off with a good film and you’re on a high for the rest of the day (if it’s a good film, if it’s not you can just quit watching it and go back to sleep).

if i’m in alone in the evening then i just end up doing nothing and hating myself, without fail

i tend to watch it split screen on my laptop, and keep something else open on the other side and play around on there

Me too. But thats because why the hell would you participate in a passive activity like that when u could post memes or play video games in this day and age>

This explain some of your hot takes @safetywink

I LOVE watching films on my own, mainly because Mrs S hates horror films so it’s my only opportunity to watch them. No way am I pissing about on my phone or whatever if she’s out and it’s my only chance to watch a horror film for a fortnight. I put my phone on silent, make popcorn, turn the lights off, the lot.

Re watched The Shining for the first time in years the other day. Brilliant.

Yeah my brain turned to mush around the advent of the smart phone, even itch to check my phone in the cinema, hardly read books or watch decent tv either. It is bizarre how something can change so much, I used to watch films for actual pleasure, watched favourite films on repeat until I knew all the words, whereas now it is a genuinely an uncomfortable experience that makes me restless. Sometimes think I should make an effort, other times I think that is artificial and I should just go with the flow and accept my mush brain

Gigs too, I still go to them but always can’t wait to get on my phone after

i don’t really watch tv cos tv is rubbish

except sport

films are sometimes - but not often - great but agree with everyone saying cinema is so so much better than watching at home

Sport is the worst of all tv

I watch a lot of tv at home alone (due to living alone). Used to watch lots of films at home when I didn’t have proper tv or a smartphone and did have a dvd player. Terrible for it now. Also don’t go to thecinema much so mostly just watch what films I see through work/at festivals etc
