Yeah, we were told to think long and hard about whether or not we really wanted to keep anything that was wooden knowing what customs were like.
We were told that if they suspect your goods to have something that wouldn’t be permitted by the (ridiculously strict) Australian import rules, then they’d do an inspection of your belongings which would be conducted at your expense. Basically saying that you can do, but the less likely you are to trigger an alert with them, the better.
With the whole NO MUD thing, we took most of our shoes in check-in baggage, as at least if they search you in the airport they don’t charge you for it.
