Interesting* bit of can-based trivia this evening.

As most can drinkers know, cans are usually 330ml (dinky cans like Brewdog, as well as soft drinks like Coke), 440ml (your standard common-or-garden multipack can), 500ml (these are most often found in off-licences) or 568ml (pint can, a favourite of the train station newsagent).

However, on inspection, these cans of Guinness are 470ml cans.

Is this just to make space for Bob the floating widget (and is therefore standard among draught cans), or are 500ml cans getting smaller?

Yes, they are incredible.

A chicken shop near me used to batter and deep fry them instead of serving wedges. They were the greasiest, saltiest, dirtiest things I’ve ever eaten, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they have been taken off the menu because they’re a health hazard. But my goodness, what a health hazard.
