Swanage (for Monkey World and other things).

This is the place we are staying at.

Ah - that bodes well

In Dorset? You bet I do!

(I love the Purbecks. Big fan of walking from Corfe Castle to Swanage and getting the steam train back)

All of the culprits are women here.

Fucking English teachers and their gender stereotypes.

:kissing_closed_eyes:

i’ve had two people at work so far today send messages asking me to get in touch urgently about something extremely important, and then when i get in touch they don’t answer their phone and ignore my messages :expressionless:

99% sure i know what it’ll be about, and 100% sure it’ll be shit. either way i’m super anxious about not knowing for sure, so thanks for that.

Had to do a ‘National Motorway Awareness Course’ last night, after getting flashed in a variable speed limit.

The course wasn’t too bad, and most of the other attendees were good, but shout out to the person who thought the cameras literally photographed your speedometer on the actual dashboard. I got a severe case of the giggles at that.

When you were all asked ‘why are you here?’ - did everyone make up lots of excuses rather than just saying they got caught breaking the speed limit?

yeah a few people were like that. it was also people done for ignore the red X when a lane is closed (course is all about smart/digital motorways).

A couple of the attendees weren’t on board with the ‘do the bare minimum to make the course go as quickly and painlessly as possible’ and wanted to tell you about ever annoyance and issue they have.

The same individual who said about the speedometer would just go on long rambles about something with no actual point, and at the end would say “so…”, to which after their 3 or 4th ramble ending “so…”, some plucky scouser said quite loudly “so what?”, which was a bit harsh but made the point quite clear that we all wanted to get this done as quickly as possible.

Hate it when people do that! They get you all panicked and then just ignore you :expressionless::weary:

I’ve always wondered if those variable speed limit things actually catch you but I guess you are proof! Did they say anything about how much cover you have to go to be caught? Asking for a friend.

it’s great when everyone has their cruise control on, but they’re all calibrated slightly differently. so you’ve got someone doing 70.5 mph trying to overtake someone else doing 70.1 mph

I know, the first guy was annoying but wasnt fussed, he does it frequently and it’s never urgent. the second guy sent an email saying “lots of shit has happened, let me know when you’re in to discuss ASAP” and I’m assuming it’s for me to sort out the shit. but I’ve been in all day, told him this and he’s just blanked me. they’re both in different locations so can’t physically go and see them either.

have gone away from my desk for a bit to try and calm down, bet one of them will have called while I’m away and will whinge about it.

I got done when the variable had been dropped from NSL to 50 and I’m not sure if I got done because I didn’t spot the change, or if it was because I set my cruise control a touch too high - I normally set my CC to 56 which has never got me in any bother before on average cameras and smart motorways. I’m really not sure to what extent they’re live when set to NSL, because plenty of people fly through those (me sometimes). The instructor was quite vague about this when asked.

Someone also asked your question about how much over you have to be to be caught, and it varies regionally. Wales is strict apparently. The instructor did say he’d not seen anyone on the course who’d been 1 mph over the speed limit. I’d guess the 10% myth you do hear tends to apply but that’s a guess.

There’s 9 miles of average 50mph speed limit on my commute, and you get exactly that situation (as well as Audis and BMWs thinking that the limit doesn’t apply to them).

50mph on my car’s cruise control reads as 48mph on my sat nav, so I set my cruise control to 52 as a happy medium.

I enjoy overtaking when someone is clearly on cruise control. It’s much more annoying when you’re cruising at 70 and someone seems to want to cycle between driving at 60 and 80. Stop overtaking me and then slowing down you berk!

thank you @Matt_was_taken, my only friend x

Fuck him.
He can’t just expect you to be waiting for him all day. People like that really wind me up. I’m massively trying to change my attitude to my work atm and not let things like this (that are out of my control) stress me out so much. It’s obviously much easier said than done but it’s helping a bit.
At the end of the day we’re just whizzing through space on a huge tiny rock and none of this shit matters at all.

i could do with doing that too tbh, at the point where almost everything here annoys me and i’m trying to figure out whether it’s me or the job, and whether jumping ship to go somewhere else is the best idea or not. should probably post in one of the work threads about it rather than here though.

I can 100%, relate. I hope you figure it out, m9!
