📅 Week in Music for July 3rd

I liked this thread idea so I’m bringing it back

I attempted a top of 2023 so far list but there’s too many albums I’ve listened to only once so far so I am rectifying that.

This morning I have listened to Sigur Ros (it’s nice) and currently on new Rrose (fckn love it)

The nicest noise in recent memory was the way the drums sounded on the Gianni Brezzo and Bokoya album and a good surprise was remembering Loma Prieta after completely forgetting about them for years.

I think music is nice, fun and good.

Seeing Owen, Militarie Gun and Rival Schools this week, so pretty pleased with that.

I’ve been listening to the xKatedral Anthology II this morning. Didn’t realise it has Maria Horn’s Dies Irae on it which is just absolutely stunning, so I’m really happy about that.

I’ve got the whole week off work! Mon-Tues my girlfriend is off too so we’re listening to stuff together, mostly playlists and shuffle, right now the music league bangers. Gonna dive into some albums when I’m on my own tomorrow.

I’ve been catching up on releases from earlier in the year that I listened to once or twice at the time but that warranted revisiting. Today I’ve enjoyed Shit Present

Decided I wanted to reconnect with all the music I love instead of constantly hunting for new stuff, and thought working out my favourite 10 tracks from each would be a fun thing to do. Yknow, for myself.

Gonna add a new one every week. If anyone fancies following and telling me how wrong I am, go for it.

Enjoyed Rufus Wainwright’s ‘Unfollow the Rules’ LP from 2020 today. Brought back memories of spring walks in lockdown.

Yesterday was a big Rival Schools day ahead of the London show this weekend, plus some Militarie Gun as I’d never heard them before.
Today has been a bit of a revisit of some albums from earlier this year after looking back on my most listened to albums of the last 6 months and realised I haven’t played some for quite a while. Listened again to Dark Horses which was great (think I picked that up in @UncleRetrospective 's monthly blog - such a good album that seems to have been slept on) and also the Andrea record Due in Color.
Now I’m stuck down a Craven Faults rabbit hole from which I might reappear at some point…

Sounded decent on first listen. Will play some more before the weekend

Only went and ordered both of these on vinyl didn’t I.

My only, frankly pathetic, excuse is that I’ve hardly bought any records recently.

I was tempted but have spent way too much this month already. Bought the digital though (the vinyl looks lush)

Gonna listen to more Rick Froberg stuff today, haven’t the last few because of earlier post. Now I’ve got time alone and it’s time to rawk. Managed a listen to Pitchfork in the last few days but that’s it. Apparently had only listened to that once in 2014, need to keep it in rotation a bit. But today it’s gonna be Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes while I drive around shopping for a new bike.
