excellent evidence of the need for three screens there
Use a laptop without external anything. Switch between typing at my desk or lying on the sofa.
Going to look like the boneitis guy from Futurama by the time I’m 50.
I have a laptop and then extra screens (one extra at home, two extra in the office) but I have a bad habit of doing a lot of my work on the little low down laptop screen rather than focusing on the big eye level screen(s)
Bought an office chair for home during lockdown because I was getting aches and pains and stuff. Bought a cheapish one and found it really uncomfortable so just went back to using the kitchen chair. Still use it to this day, the office chair is now used for keeping my coat/books/putting my feet up.
Aches and pains were more stress based than anything else though so went away after a while, so my terrible posture still hasn’t entirely caught up with me yet.
I bought one during lockdown that was shite and slagged it off on a dse assessment (do also have a medical condition) and they bought me another one that’s pretty much the same as the office ones, so worth trying to get another one imo.
Probably should, but office chair at the dining room table felt really mismatched as well.
I forgot that you could get money back for the chair from work until after I’d ordered it so would have spent a bit more if I’d remembered.
I went to the GP about ulna wrist pain recently and other than the obvious stuff about ergonomic keyboards etc his advice was to do some shifting position every 20 minutes - he recommended a cheap sand timer on the desk - like you don’t have stop working but stand up, shake your arms out, flick your fingers, anything to increase blood flow around the bits of you that are static. Every hour actually leave your desk and do something else. He also recommended a fake commute before and after work.
You got a usb c on there?
nope
This is my set up, I really like it. Obviously the desk isn’t tidy in general use, this was from when I first set it up.
Twin 1440p monitors, which actually look great via the MacBook Pro. Don’t use the laptop screen at all as I prefer sticking with two monitors of the same resolution. I tried a single big 4k monitor and a huge curved one, but neither were as good as this set up.
Magic Trackpad is so much more comfortable on my wrists than a mouse, although I do now have a wrist rest.
Laptop on a stack of books, big monitor from my work plugged in, chair stolen from my partner as she’s got a new one and it’s really good for postures so super comfy. The desk we bought for a tenner from a charity shop, and is a bit too small, but houses my PC and printer underneath fine and CBA to change it.
I tried
You can use a USB-C cable now to connect to a monitor instead of HDMI? Wtf, how did I not know this
It’s all USB-C and DisplayPort these days
At least you can get your toes under - until i scrolled down my back was crying out in empathy with the lean
I’m sure in 10 years I’ll have chronic back pain or something but it feels to me that it’s the perfect height for me to work at.
My only issue is my feet sometimes get a bit sore so I have to wear shoes with good cushioning, other than that I think I prefer it to sitting. Would be nice to have the space for a proper standing desk though!

used to work doing DSE assessments for a bit - bad setups can really fuck you up.
Your company should definitely be providing you with kit. Bump the laptop up to eye level (stack of books will do) and plug in a separate keyboard + mouse at least.
