Preach. Although I feel like I maintain a pretty good balance and don’t overdo it with new releases (a handful a month, if that), there are still times I revisit end of year and just don’t know the albums well enough. I miss the old days of just playing the same albums over and over and knowing them like the back of my hand.
Yup. This year was the first in a good five or six years I’ve added something to the DiS polling thread, and that was only because Young Fathers were a clear favourite. The other four I selected could’ve been any one of about ten I’ve listened to more than four times.
I still know the four albums I had spread over two cassettes during my 2001 summer holiday better than anything I’ve listened to in the last ten years.
Edit: Fwiw, they were:
- Weezer - Pinkerton
- Supergrass - Supergrass
- White Stripes - White Blood Cells
- Pavement - Brighten The Corners
Small albums are calling it a day. I got so many amazing records and bands from them. Such a beautiful thing to have done.
As such I’m after some new places to find new music. Help a man out please DiS
Boomkat weekly newsletter is a brilliant source: https://boomkat.com/newsletter
only just seen that their website is gone ![]()
are there any archives of it?
Nope, not that I’m aware
If you can sift through their Instagram, you might get some of the recommendations from the posts. But all the playlists are still on Spotify (if you’re still using it)
I do, for my sins, still have a Spotify subscription. found the playlists
I did also find some of the blog on the Wayback Machine, so it’s not fully lost
