Not sure anything very recent touches mine. Can’t really put mine in an order ( so wouldn’t expect you to) but they are:

David Bowie - Low
Bjork - Vespertine
Chromatics - Kill for Love
Deftones - White Pony
Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile
PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love
The Roots - Things Fall Apart
Spiritualized - Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space
Tom Waits - Mule Variations

Weirdly that’s far more male than most of the music I listen to… St Vincen’s Actor and Sharon Van Etten’s Tramp is another contender, and I can’t choose between School of Seven Bells albums. At one point Baduizm was my most listened to album And I’ve excluded records I’ve released. Also no Weezer or The Shins or The Stills or The Twilight Sad or Arab Strap a tonne of albums I adore, argh. Maybe I should have said top 50 but didn’t think anyone would have time to make a list that long…

#2

ITAOTS-nmh
Laughing Stock-Talk Talk
The Holy Bible-Manic Street Preachers
Funeral-Arcade Fire
Emergency and I-Dismemberment Plan
Another Green World-Brian Eno
Skylarking-XTC
Blonde on Blonde-Bob Dylan
Blonde-Frank Ocean
13-Blur

Nothing from 2017 would be in my top 10, pure comedy would probably be in my top 25

#3

Aw man… It’s been so long since I’ve even tried to consider this. Things Fall Apart would be in there though. Talk Amongst The Trees by Eluvium too. This could take a while…

#4

I will bite. Based on this moment:

Can - Ege Bamyasi
Fugazi - The Argument
Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary
Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
Tortoise- TNT
Liars - Drum’s not Dead
Sleater-Kinney - All Hands on the Bad One
Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime
The Notwist - Neon Golden
Sufjan - Carrie & Lowell

Hmm, looks to be heavy on the oughts, when I had lots of free time and I suppose mental energy for diving into stuff more. But I still listen to as much new music as I can… I’ll see what this list looks like in 10 years.

#5

NMH - ITAOTS
Interpol - TOTBL
GY!BE - F#A#
Mogwai - Young Team
Neil Young - After The Goldrush
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
SOTL - And Their Refinement of The Decline
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Low - TWLITF
Iron and Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days

This is subject to change on an almost hourly basis though.

So, no, nothing from this year gets in.

#6

Nothing from this year. My top ten changes pretty regularly but these most frequently make the cut.

Weezer - Blue
Rocket From The Crypt - Scream Dracula Scream
Nirvana- Nevermind
Suede - Coming Up
Fugazi - The Argument
Turbonegro- Apocalypse Dudes
Frank Zappa - Overnite Sensation
Idlewild- 100 Broken Windows
Faith No More- Angel Dust
Mogwai - Mr Beast

#7

Fake list! because there’s no Paramore

#8

Hmm it’s probably

Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy
Joanna Newsom - Ys
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
Grimes - Visions
Stars of the Lid - And Their Refinement of Their Decline
Sun Kil Moon - Benji
Tim Hecker - Harmony in Ultraviolet
Destroyer - Kaputt
Julianna Barwick - Nepenthe
Low - Things We Lost in the Fire

…or something. I’ve not got the most eclectic taste…coming to accept that now. Most of it is fairly recent, but no new entries since 2014 (Benji). As was discussed in the “10/10 albums” thread…I think you need a period of time before declaring something one of your 10 favourites.

The recent album that will probably creep in is from 2016, Teens of Denial by Car Seat Headrest. As for 2017…a few contenders that need to prove their longevity, really: Aromanticism by Moses Sumney, A Crow Looked at Me by Mount Eerie, Arca by Arca and Not Even Happiness by Julie Byrne.

#9

We share two top ten albums

Would be 3 if you’d chosen the correct GY!BE album…

Love the Iron & Wine one too…and must admit it fits a particular time/mood better than anything else.

#10

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Belly - King
Galaxies 500 - Today
Suede - Dog Man Star
Belle and Sebastian - Tigermilk
The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs
The Beastie Boys - Ill Communication
The Go-Betweens - 16 Lovers Lane
REM - Out Of Time
The Lemonheads - Come On Feel…

That’s my top 10 thinking about it for five minutes. Looking at that list, none of my top 10 are this side of the millennium.

#11

Maybe even Galaxie* 500. Bloody predictive texting.

#12

This is still really hard even though I think about it all the time. It’s very difficult comparing albums you’ve been listening to for 20 years to albums you’ve only been listening to for a few or to albums that absolutely defined a specific year or two period. And also figuring out if an album you’ve listened to only a couple times in the past decade should beat out ones you’ve listened to hundreds. I have a tendency to “save” my absolute favorites and listen to them very rarely in order to preserve their impact. (I’ll probably end up making three different categorized lists and be unsatisfied with each one because I’m the worst.)

#13

Not in any order and does change at times but at the moment it’s

Pearl Jam - Ten
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
Swans - The Seer
The Cure - Seventeen Seconds
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus
Stars of the Lid - And Their Refinement of the Decline
Tom Mcrae - Tom Mcrae
Sigur Ros - ( )
Ben Frost - By the Throat
PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love

#14

Radiohead - OK Computer
Biosphere - Substrata
Autechre - Amber
Boards of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children
Squarepusher - Go Plastic
Sigur Ros - Takk
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile
Everything Everything - Get To Heaven
Radiohead - Kid A
Tim Hecker - Harmony In Uultraviolet

Hard to place albums from this year on an all-time list, but I imagine Everything Everything and Julie Byrne will occupy at least solid top 50 spots for years to come.

#15

Definitely nothing from 2017 troubling the top 10

Radiohead - OK Computer
Weezer - Weezer (Blue)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr Skinny Fists
Deftones - White Pony
Slint - Spiderland
Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come
Hope of the States - The Lost Riots
Weezer - Pinkerton
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness

So, used to consider Brand New’s ‘Devil & God’ as an all time top 10 album. Absolutely fuck them. Maybe I’ll be able to go back to it someday but that day will not be anytime soon. Anyway, only happened a couple of weeks ago so don’t know what else I’d put in the top 10 now… Dark Fantasy? Good Kid Maad City? Doolittle? Turn on the Bright Lights? Sound of Silver? All of them could have a shout.

#16

Alien lanes
6 feet beneath the moon
The Monitor
From a Basement on the Hill
American Water
Tim
Hello Sadness
Blonde
Abbey Road
When I said I wanted to be your dog…

Stopped listening to hip hop almost altogether this year, so my tastes have moved in this direction.

From 2017 I loved Pure Comedy but I’ve not been back to it for 6 months. Still think Life Without Sound is a stellar effort and a real development of their sound. On the other hand, I’m not getting on to well with the new Jens Lekman album

#17

Yeah it’s hard to decontextualise a record or band that was your life for a few months or years! Like I know that there are ‘objectively’ better albums than Hello Sadness but I’ve listened to it hundreds of times and it’s like a big hug

#18

This feels pretty way off for my listening habits now, but since I stopped buying albums it can be harder to track how tastes change or which albums really stuck with me (rather than which I have nostalgic fondness for).

But anyway, something vaguely like:

Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand
The Clash - London Calling
Death Cab For Cutie - Transatlantiscism
Archers of Loaf - Icky Mettle
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
The National - Boxer
Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West
Neil Young - Harvest
British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music?

Blerg …

#19

Have always preferred the bleak atmosphere of F#A# over Lift… It’s a very close run thing though

#20

Odd how little this reflects my current tastes. The only album I’ve added to the list since I was a teenager is Double Cup. I don’t think I form quite the same attachment to albums now, no matter how much I love them.

The Beatles – Rubber Soul
DJ Rashad – Double Cup
Pavement – Slanted and Enchanted
The Strokes – Room On Fire
The Velvet Underground – The Velvet Underground & Nico
Weezer – The Blue Album
Weezer – Pinkerton
Women – Public Strain
Wu-Tang Clan – Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
