Yeah, those are probably the best times to go. I went in early June (about 2 years ago), when it was just starting to get busy.

Really irks me that the Manchester to Biarritz flight was discontinued (sure that’s not the right word) as it was by far the best way to get there. That said it did mean getting to swoon over that gorgeous airport at Bilbao last time.

I’m trying to be flight-free from now on, but I think it’ll be a great overland journey!

I’ve travelled by train from the UK to the South of France and back before and it’s great fun. The absolute killer financially is the trains here, though. The most expensive part of the journey was the two hours from Cardiff to London.

I think that’s the one I got (did Bilbao on the way there).

Think it would be a good journey yeah, you could hit somewhere in central France on the way down

Really depressing, isn’t it? Everytime plan an overland journey it is all affordable and realistic to do apart from the UK section of it. Further reminds and depresses me that Brexit has pretty much put paid to me ever living in mainland Europe as I’d been planning for my whole life.

I was talking to someone who works on the railways and he was saying that when the Channel Tunnel was first opened they’d planned to run direct Eurostar services to France from Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff, etc, but those plans got cancelled for some reason. That would’ve been amazing.

No we haven’t isn’t one of them owned by the same people as El Gato Negro.

There’s a tapas place in North Laine in Brighton, no idea what it’s called, I’ve only ever called it ‘the tapas place’, anyway we went there the night after the 2015 general election and got howling drunk and cursed the Milifandom and that shitting bastard Cameron and now all tapas makes me think of that general election. Still bloody love tapas though, been considering making lockdown croquetas.

I remember eating choricitos dripping in oil last year in Barcelona and crying with joy. Was looking forward to having them again this year but alas.

Bar San Juan in Chorlton has always been my fave in Manchester, absolute mission getting in though and that’s when there’s only two of us. Worth it when you do though.

Small beers
Small plates
Sometimes a small bag of olive oil crisps brought out on a plate
Maybe a camel blue between rounds

Small haircuts

Lone voice of dissent here. I don’t think I’ve ever ordered a second helping but I’ve always liked the idea. Sounds pretty good but not sure the tapas places I’ve been to are really set up for it. Get you in and out sharpish.

I like to go to a pub with Thai Tapas and then order omelette (plain) with chips.

Have you been to Tapeo & Wine? Giving the owner is expect the food to be overwhelmingly disappointing but the staff being so nice you feel like you can’t criticise it

I lived in Brisbane for two years and Australians get tapas completely wrong to an obscene degree… but they end up being pretty fantastic in their own way. It just means a small plate of anything - usually with absolutely no connection to Spain, or even Europe. A huge number of restaurants do them though and they often end up being where the chefs will try out more exciting things on a smaller scale, so you can order loads of smaller plates and if an experiment falls flat it doesn’t matter.

It’s fuck all to do with (wonderful) Spanish Tapas, but it’s still pretty sweet.

Wigan used to have an All You Can eat tapas restaurant. It was better than it sounds, but still

Was looking for that and found this;

I love how the photo names are listed as the dish names. Wonder if it’s a site error or the writer really doesn’t know their tapas
