I think I just call it change? I dunno, I’ve never really named it. I do use shrapnel occasionally but I’m not really cool enough to pull it off, like sitting on a chair backwards.

It’s change, unless there’s loads of low-denomination coins, then that stuff is shrapnel. I guess it’s change when I want it and shrapnel when I don’t (because I’m carrying too much). Goes in a compartment in my wallet.

There’s nothing better than buying a Twix or something with a load of silver and copper shrapnel and it coming to exactly the right amount. If you got forum badges for real life, there would definitely be one for that.

Didn’t someone on DIS a few weeks ago declare that adults don’t carry change or something? There was definitely some foolishness along these lines.

But in answer to your question, cash, and £1.77, although I have £1.30 in transit to the cafe with a co-worker, who will be buying me snacks with it. I leave it up to you to decide whether this counts as it could theoretically come back. Schroedinger’s cash, or something.*

I call it change and I have €4.70 on me. Usually carry it in the right side pocket of my jeans and dump all coins below €0.05 in a change jar in our kitchen. The €0.01 and €0.02 coins are being slowly phased out here though, thank fuck.
