What do you think about the decision made by Jeffrey Katzenberg of Disney Studios to cut the song ‘When Love Is Gone’ from the theatrical release of The Muppet Christmas Carol?

I mean, it’s a bit soppy, but surely it ruins the balance of the ending when the song is reprised as ‘The Love We Found’, doesn’t it?

Gotta say, Herring is bang on the money there.

If you want to watch the original version with Love is Gone on Disney+, you have to navigate to the ‘Extras’ menu. If you just hit play you won’t see it, and the heart of the movie will be removed. It’s disgusting, actually.

Up there with Han Shot First as one of the worst edits ever made to a film.

Whatever choices made the film shorter can only have been the Lord’s work.

execs tried to remove Somewhere Over The Rainbow from The Wizard Of Oz (1939) and Part Of Your World from The Little Mermaid (1989), these sick fucks have poisoned our society for too long

I’d love to have a job where I, an unskilled rube, get to view a large scale project or piece of work and get paid to say “Hmm, no cut that bit.” on a whim.

My initial reaction was to be impressed Cliff Clavin had that kind of clout

It’s a bit of a dreary shit song but it feels central to the plot. I think as a kid watching it I was never quite clear about what happened with the breakup, because the song was missing. Maybe I was just a fucking idiot though.

Only saw the full version for the first time 2 years ago when I went to see it in the cinema before Christmas

you think it’s all just fun and games, but you have to do so much coke and pills like all the time, it’s solid graft

Feel pretty bad for the actress tbh, removing the song makes her part of the film very small indeed.

Takes up time and doesn’t advance the plot so fine to remove. It’s a nice enough song, though.
However, give me less Statler and Waldorf and you’re getting a war.
(I’ve got a really tough day at work coming up and you bet I’m seeing TMCC at the cinema beforehand.)

Get out
