šŸæ What films are you watching? April 2026 šŸæ

34 Watched.
Best: The Integrity of Joseph Chambers, I Swear, Boston Strangler
Worst: A Saint, a Woman, a Devil

MMOTM: Hitman duo Dancer and Julian in The Lineup. (Apparently Joe Pesci’s role in Goodfellas was based on Eli Wallach’s Dancer).

But yet commando is the best film you watched last month.

watched dragged across concrete. no wonder they stopped letting him make films tbh, with bone tomahawk and cell block h you could tell there was a right wing slant to them but nowt like this

the bit where mel gibson’s character talks about cancel culture being unfair!

his wife going ā€˜I’m the least racist, most liberal person around but these damn blacks keep assaulting my daughter’!

it is pretty good when they get into the action.

Do it now!

Man this is reminding me I should finally get round to seeing Dragged Across Concrete. Been building up the strength to see it for years, despite loving Bone Tomahawk and Block 99. We can have a little right wing media as a treat, right?

Bulk - one day I really will stick to my promise of not watching any more Ben Wheatley films

MMOTM - Gosling eating a pizza in Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Pretty in Pink - DVD

Hated this. Regret paying £1 for it. These early John Hughes films are awful.

Watched the Devil Wears Prada, thought it was fine

Trying to decide whether to go see Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance at the cinema tonight. Any thoughts? @riverwise you might be the guy to ask

Rewatched Spirited Away for the first time in many, many years. 10/10

Or, based on the 30 second glance my dad caught of it in 2007, it is ā€œbloody rubbishā€

Watched Intolerable Cruelty for the first time last night. I remember it being marketed as ā€˜The Coens do a mainstream rom com’ and, well, it’s not that at all is it?

You guessed right, I’m a big fan of the Lone Wolf And Cub movies. I would definitely be going to see this at the cinema if it was on near me!

A couple of caveats though: it’s the first in the series and maybe the weakest of the six, it doesn’t really find its groove until the second film imo. And there is a very weird sex scene as well, but you just have to chalk that up to it being fifty year old exploitation cinema from a different culture and move on. Don’t make too much of these quibbles though, you will still get plenty of excellent samurai action and spraying blood, severed limbs etc, just not as many and without as much weird beauty as you get later.

Tl;dr: go!

Good intel! I’m definitely up for it, but I’m travelling with my gf and think it’s less her thing. But I might persuade her

I Swear - Netflix

Excellent film. Didn’t realise there was so much overlap between Tourettes and OCD tbh. Some of it, especially with the family early on, was sadly quite relatable.

I knew of its reputation and really shouldn’t have done it, but upon a recommendation from a student, I watched Threads

I can’t think of a time where it might even be vaguely enjoyable to watch this film, but right now is not the right time. But for what it’s worth, I thought it was absolutely brilliant and utterly harrowing.

edit: worth mentioning that this student is easily the highest level of English student I have come across in my 16 years of teaching English. He’s in his final year of high school (so he’s either 18 or 19) and I wouldn’t be surprised if he watched Threads without subtitles. He’s also read House of Leaves in English, and has won so many national competitions that he doesn’t even have to take the equivalent of an A level in English. He also likes Godspeed You Black Emperor and I got him into The Black Heart Procession. Top tier student.

Also watched Devil Wears Prada the other night. Thought it was pretty good overall, but let down by an ending that didn’t feel tonally consistent with what came before.
