šŸæ What films are you watching? April 2026 šŸæ

Excellent film

Watched Lenny (1974) not as good as All That Jazz, felt quite slow in parts. Hoffman was good.

Liked The Drama, but couldn’t help but feel its premise didn’t quite stretch to a feature film. It felt like something Curb would do. Found myself looking at my watch, figuratively speaking, after about 40 minutes. It had its moments though, and a few laughs. Not a patch on Dream Scenario.

We’re putting on a Brazilian season in May at the NFT - Brazil On Film - and I’ve already earmarked doing an all dayer on the 23rd, comprising 4 films:

Chuck Billy and the Marvellous Guava Tree
Bye Bye Brazil
City of God
Mars One

It’s a really great line-up throughout the month. Some wonderful gems.

I watched Back to the Future for the first time

Watched Drop Dead Gorgeous last night, why did no-one tell me how good this is? One of those films with an almost unbelievable density of jokes.

And, what did you think?

Better than I expected

Scream 7 is terrible. Worst reveals of Ghostface they’ve ever done

Hoppers is fun! Actually belly laughed multiple times. Well done all.

Barely watched any films this year, think I did too many last year. Been trying to catch up on series and…life.

Watching A Town Called Panic again right now though because why not. 5/5, 10/10, zero notes. Joy.

If you haven’t seen the ~half-hour shorts, I’d really recommend those too. They might actually be my favourites of all the Panique stuff.

A new one just got funded as well!

Twinless is really great. Funny, emotional and fucked up.

Saw Project Ken in Space last night at the cinema with the 12yo

Didn’t expect it to be such a kid’s movie … pretty schmaltzy but Gosling charms his way through it I guess

The 12yo enjoyed it but I think she still prefers Interstellar & Arrival for her existential space/alien kicks

I just watched Wasteman

I thought this was brilliant. The main appeal of the film are the two main actors. I have seen a lot of films with David Jonsson (although he hasn’t been in many, to be fair - the only one I haven’t seen is Bonhoeffer) and he is great in this too. He is so versatile and I think I’ve signed up to watch everything he’s in. I hadn’t seen Tom Blyth in anything before (unless you count his role as ā€˜feral child’ in Ridley Scott’s boring Robin Hood film and I thought he was fantastic in this as well.

I’ve always had an irrational hatred of Chicken Run. Decided to watch it again last night. First time in about 20+ years.

It’s okay.

You’ve really turned around on that thing

Watched Crime 101 last night, felt like more fun than it should have been given that I’m not massively into the cast and that it feels like the director watched Heat maybe three or four times a day during the making of it.

Not normally a fan of Ruffalo, but I did enjoy how his physical inspiration in this seemed to be Columbo.

Cool film

Anyway, laying aside my One Battle After Another 4/5 controversy, I also watched

The Running Man 2025 and really enjoyed it. It’s a dumb fun 80s style action film with nothing much to say but it doesn’t matter. Never seen the Arnie one or read the story, mind.

Weapons - properly amazingly great film. Just perfect stuff.
