Camp Miasma has a special place in my heart because I’ve never seen my own anxiety / insecurity around sex and relationships conveyed so well

And it’s very hopeful in a way

Also assume you adored the Final
Fantasy esque painted backdrops as much as I did too

Was surprised how much I loved this, such a brilliant performance!

Watched The French Connection.

Not sure any city in any era looks better in films than 70s New York, and not sure 70s New York is ever captured as well as it is in this. Great stuff

As someone who…. appreciated TV Glow more than outright enjoyed, I thought Miasma was great and very watchable.

Felt very much the same about TV Glow, so good to hear you got on better with Camp Miasma (i’m seeing it on Saturday)

Mutiny, then. Stath kicks people on a boat but equally looks like he really can’t be bothered at all. Some bits are incredibly funny, eg the entire plot only happens because multiple people are unable to tell two white bald men apart, or how some onscreen text says he went to the “University of Vauxhall”. A 4/10 that is equally a 10/10. I took a 7% beer in and had a great time. Goodbye.

This was supposed to be the sequel to the Gerard Butler film Plane. It was going to be called Boat. Buttler pulled out six weeks before filming so a big bag of money was thrown at the Stath so they could get the film made. Which probably explains the Stath going thru the motions even more than usual.

Haha! Amazing. I had a suspicion this was the case as I remember all the chat about the sequel being set on a boat but it wasn’t mentioned on the Wikipedia page for this. That’s funny. Tomorrow’s job is to edit and source that one into the history books, then…

I thought you were saying Jamie Demetriou was the star and I’m slightly disappointed

Popped out to see Mr Dua Lipa in One Night Only, it was okay. I had fun, I’ll forget it pretty quickly, but it was a much more fun experience than Anne Hathaway in the 80s with dinosaurs

Bit weird that it kind of doesn’t know what it wants to do and dips lightly into sci fi dystopia and then incredibly broad humour about condoms.

Heat (1995) again. Cheers.

A fine choice

The Whisper Man is unbelievably average

Our Hero, Balthazar

Pretty good film touching on toxic masculinity/the manosphere/incel culture/gun violence, Asa Butterfield surprisingly convincing as a Texan incel

Sound of Falling - technically very impressive but otherwise quite hard work.

Going from Heat to watching an episode of Cheers must have given you whiplash.

And then Whiplash must have given me First Man (2018)!!!

The White Ribbon (2009, dir. Michael Haneke). Found it a bit slow at first then very gripping as the plot kicked in. Between this film and the Bergmans I’ve seen this month, the theme of August is “blank and white films about Protestant morality”.
