Watched some good (one not so good) queer films. Trailed off towards theend because of the heatwave.

Mostly Il Cinema Ritrovato stuff. Highlights:
- Revisiting a bunch of Barbara Stanwyck movies. Think she’s the best classic Hollywood actress there was, she could do every genre and she’s always so authentic
- The Emigrants / The New Land double bill – an intense way of spending 7 hours, but so worth it
- Peking Opera Blues – really fun thriller / heist / martial arts / comedy blend
- Whistle Down the Wind – Alan Bates as an escaped murderer who hides out in a Lancashire barn and is discovered by some local children who think he’s Jesus. Hopefully this gets a wider release as the BFI have just restored it. One of those films that seems to have been lost, but was (is?) very very well known for a slightly older generation.
- The Devils - looked immense on 35mm, director’s cut. So so beautiful and powerful

MMOTM: probably the train sequence in Disclosure Day. Hardly a lot of competition though.

worls cuo has played havoc with my movie viewing 
need (NEED) to see the furious but the cinemas here are not making it easy for me
best: kill (indian action movie, does the ‘die hard on a train’ thing significantly better than under siege 2, if you can believe such a thing. first 40 minutes is mostly setting the table and some decentish actionthen the title card drops and all hell breaks loose ). fun!
worst: mando & grogu. boring, not fun! (good score though tbf)
movie moment of the month: wyatt russell trying and failing to run over an iphone in disclosure day

Also lots of Il Cinema Ritrovato.
- Sunrise with a live orchestra accompaniment was a very incredible opener to it all.
- Lady Eve was SO silly and fun, and this was my first time watching Double Indemnity which was just amazing
- The Devils felt very monumental to see with the added scenes and restoration. Felt quite touched by Kermode’s credit in it!
- Lemonade Joe (a ridiculous 60s Czech satire of America/westerns with a very problematic bit…) and Elmer Gantry were two surprising ones that blew me away!
Bologna and the festival is an amazing experience that I’m desperate to do again. I loved it all so so much. Recommend it to everyone here with all my heart. @noopout provided lots of great advice and help, thank you! Some photos:

I also had tickets for a different screening of Elmer Gantry later in the week but ended up skipping it in favour of an air-conditioned nap. Need to catch up with it at home at some point

Yes! I had a ticket to Whistle Down The Wind there too but felt like I needed a break from Arlecchino and see some sun for a bit.
Also cancelled my Peking Opera Blues ticket to watch England vs Ghana which I regret enormously

They’re fine, I couldn’t decide what to rate them.
Off for a double bill on Sunday, All The President’s Men followed by Rita, Sue and Bob Too. Different vibes I imagine 
(haven’t seen the former)
