Nirvanna The Bandā¦Thought this was fun. Went in totally blind. Obviously very cleverly coordinated and executed, with some really big laughs (one very unexpected). I struggled to get on its wavelength to a degree where I was fully immersed though, and found Matt and Jay quite grating which is a shame. Liked the very end. 7
Didnāt want to pay for Nirvanna The Band last night so went with High Fidelity. Definitely havenāt watched it for at least 20 years. I enjoyed Belle and Sebastian bit. Forgot about Springsteen popping up. Good film 3.5 Stars. Makes me want to read the book again.

I watched Matt Johnsons directorial debut, The Dirties, last night. Strange how much overlap there is between it and Nirvanna the band, the show, the movie given how they cover vastly different subject matter. Same with Operation Avalanche too, to a much lesser extent.

I was worried I would be pretty lost at the start of All The Presidents Men because my knowledge of the details of the Watergate scandal are pretty sketchy but luckily it turned into a film about Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redfordās high jinks and it was fantastic, loved it. Great brown movie candidate

Thought The Invite was good but not great. Olivia Wilde is getting a lot of praise for her directing but I thought it was really over-egged, too stylised and frantic. Wouldāve liked it to have more confidence in the actors and the script to let the story breathe. Loved seeing Penelope Cruz though, what a megatar. Biggest laugh from me came from an audience member saying a genuinely concerned sounding āOh noā out loud after Penelope Cruz asks the other couple a probing question.

Worst: Scream 7 (not a disaster, but easily worst of the series)
MMOTM: any of the hairlines jokes at poor Robert Forsterās expense in Alligator

I WATCHED IT FOR THE BAAZZZZ
I need to rewatch Operation Avalanche knowing way more about him now. Cause I remember enjoying it but I honestly donāt remember MUCH about it and Iām sure Iād appreciate it way more

basically the place where I go occasionally for their amazing free film screenings have been doing football films every week of the World Cup. I also saw Diamantino which Iād never heard of before but was fucking incredible

The Aviator only being a 3 seems like a big miss given the sort of stuff you usually rate, shame

Yeah. I think Iād get more out of it if I had more of an existing interest in Howard Hughes tbf. Also, I understand the choice thematically but the first half is so ugly

went to see the new jackass last week. got suitably baked beforehand and had a great time, nothing weāve not seen before and a lot of old classic bits shown. Always good to watch a jackass film in afull cinema, got quite emotional towards the end.

Got to The Invite as my first film of the month. Absolutely loved it, painfully cringeworthy but also laughed as much as I have in years. Feels like it was really treading similar ground to The Drama without having much actual vibes overlap between them, just a really cool pair of killers films to come out close together
On first watch genuinely felt up there with the all-time great funny-dramatic relationship films, properly sharp and zingy and fun and heartfelt. Great score too, added loads without being overbearing
Think Olivia Wilde made about 10 of the best facial expressions ever in this film, basically burst out laughing any time it cut to her

The crouching soufflĆ© stare will live large in the mind of anyone whoās tried to cook something overly complex. One of the truest raw emotions Iāve seen on screen

The Invite - definitely has its moments (and it was good fun seeing it in a cinema with a load of people who were all really enjoying it) but this is no Splitsville. Or Abigailās Party. Or Husbands and Wives. I donāt think it helps that Penelope Cruz/Edward Norton are much better actors than Olivia Wilde/Seth Rogen.
The way they both just disappear at the end, did Cruz/Nortonās characters ever really exist? Maybe they just didnāt want the dish back?
