I know 7/10 feels a little low for Anatomy of a Fall. It was very good, and Sandra Huller and the kid were astonishing, but I simply donβt enjoy courtroom drama.
I started but didnβt finish about 20 films in February. Need to finish all those cause I hardly watched anything. Or maybe I forgot to log things. Not sure
Watched: 14, 2 of which were shorts.
Rewatched: A Serious Man
Best: Zone of Interest, Fallen Angels, Sick of Myself, Synecdoche New York
Worst: American Fiction (not even a bad film, just full of bits that didnβt need to be there)
been very lazy with my reviews here generally too, bad form!c
No One Will Save You - great central performance, pulls off a tricky central concept pretty well. Enjoy how genre Brian Duffield goes, looking forward to his next project already
Lizzie - had fun seeing the two leads act off each other, everything else about it was boring and tbh quite confusing. Not sure i got the motivation for why anything happened
American Fiction - better as a family drama than a satire imho, but very enjoyable and J Wright is just a fun screen presence
All of Us Strangers - did a lot with what it had, but was much smaller scale than I was expecting for some reason. Found scenes and aspects very moving, but didnβt quite add up as I was hoping it would. Mescal was great though, most Iβve enjoyed a performance from him. Found the end a little cheesy tbh
Dinner in America - flatmate was really charmed by it, but the first third was so annoying that it couldnβt recover. Juno for anarcho-punks. Good scene when they wrote the song though.
The Whole Nine Yards - still charming, still a very fun watch. 90s crime capers might be one of my fav comfort sub-genres
My mmotm is that when I used to record videos from channel 4 overnight cause I had school in the morning I recorded Sitcom the Ozon film and itβs really strange and then the other week I wanted to watch Frantz but Iβve not seen an Ozon film since Sitcom and I was thinking Frantz would be strange too but itβs not at all. Could have been made in the late 40s
Best: Past Lives, Aftersun
Worst: Dumbo (2019)
MMotM: the bit in American Fiction where his agent/publisher guy does the action of blowing his brains out on the phone and instantly apologising. Made me cackle
Humdingers

Movie Moment of the Month:
Watching Society of the Snow and becoming so obsessed with the tragedy that I watched another film off the back of it, as well as a documentary, about 12 YouTube videos, decided upon a favourite survivor, read that survivorβs book, emailed him afterwards to say how cool he is, got a response, and have ordered another book. Thatβs what I call movie magic!
