Yeah, and the other bit where the little girl just immediately goes to sleep when they reach the little hut even when theyâre being pursued by the scary bastard. Comedy!
More people watch Daughters on Netflix please!
MMOTM: Jeremy Strongâs call from the hospital bed in The Apprentice.
banger of a list of films there!
canât wait for Anora
MMotM
Emilia PĂŠrez - 2024
Zoe SaldaĂąa being amazing in 2 dance sequences (especially the dinner one) or the scene with them loading guns rhythmically.
Anora rules. Itâs beautiful then stressful then really sad.
October bests:
The Silence of the Lambs
The Assistant
Room
The Wild Robot
The Apprentice
The Shadow Strays
My Old Arsehole
Ouija: Origin of Evil
These ended up being in order of enjoyment
forget it chickenbones, itâs kennedy curse town
I know, generous of.me isnt it
me and my friends wouldâve killed tekkers with hammers for that score I can tell you that much
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire - obviously rubbish, but exactly the kind of rubbish I unashamedly enjoy, specifically the title which is inane and I wonder and of yer persons in the street use the full title, or if they just go âone ticket for Godzilla and King Kong please!â
Civil War - I totally get why people might not like this (one of my colleagues switched it off after twenty minutes) but I like these types of films (by which I mean films where some apocalyptic thing is going on and characters just move between set pieces and I thought it looked great for what canât have been a very high budget.
Inside Out 2 - Basically Inception 2, and I liked it a lot
I Saw the TV Glow - Absolutely loved it. I also loved Weâre All Going to the Worldâs Fair, so I had high expecations of this, which were completely met. So much going on, and so many highlights. I cannot wait to see what Jane does next. Definitely a film I will watch again.
20 Days in Mariupol - Probably not a film I will watch again, but this is harrowing, powerful and it seems strange to say it, but thrilling. I live in this part of Europe (Poland) so I could totally recognise the kind of buildings, people, and city infrastructure in Mariupol which brought it closer to home.
In BrugesâŚwatched this for the first time today. Not very good, atrocious language throughout.
4/10
Just got out of Anora, thought it was excellent and now really want to hear what people thought about the ending
Hugh Grant in Heretic is Richard Osman coded
Nancy (2018)
Feel like even just the quick plot synopsisâ of this film have interpreted itâŚwrong? But maybe thatâs a sign of its ambiguity.
Anyway the way I saw it, itâs about a serial liar and imposter who pretends to be the disappeared child of a couple. I donât think at any point she actually believed that she was the child, but so many of the Letterboxd reviews seem to be leaning that way and overall seem a bit too sympathetic to her. Pretty odd
Riseborough - who I have a lot of time for, sheâs almost unrecognisable from film to film and she doesnât need to resort to silly Christan Bale antics to disappear into a role - is overacting in this and it quickly becomes distracting (as does her wig). Nice understated small role by Leguizamo.
Feel like this film could be âmore relevant than everâ but the delivery just felt off, thereâs one line of dialogue where I burst out laughing and that probably shouldnât be happening given the subject matter
Blur: To the End
Very enjoyable documentary focusing on the bandâs 2023 reunion. Refreshingly honest and moving in parts. Alex still comes across as a cunt, though.
The Critic is absolutely shite. One of the most pointless films I have ever seen
Youâre bang on with this one, bro. Utterly shite.
best: The Grudge, The Killer, Spinal Tap, even if it was the 800th time Iâve watched it
worst: Kayako vs Sadako. They both deserved better
MMOTM: the church shootout in The Killer. Never seen so many bullets in all my life
Watched Trap recently, vaguely interesting premise but then seems to completely run out of steam in the last third or so, Iâve heard a few suggestions that it was largely made to showcase Salekaâs ability and it does kind of across like that at points (with the writing taking a back seat).
Also watched Abigail, on a plane journey thought it was actually really enjoyable, quite slick and gory with the eponymous character being a great villain of sorts and at points thereâs almost a wry black humour underpinning everything.
