Best: Probably The Drama, The Invite was a very close second, quite like these sort of inter middle class antagonism films, they seem quite good at teasing out points of contention in what appear to be on the surface shared points of reference.
Worst: Rise of the Footsoldier, but tbh I think it’s actually worth watching since it does a good job of exploring some of the history around firms, football violence, and rave culture etc and there’s genuinely something quite gritty about it.
£4 cinema tickets this weekend
I thought was Miasma was fine. Thought it was better than TV Glow, but I feel like the Director probably has a better film in them. Hannah E should be in more films, she’s great.
Elsewhere, I watched The Godfather for the first time over the weekend (i know!). Previously had seen bits of it here and there but for some reason never fully sat down and focused on it all the way through. Turns out it’s actually pretty decent eh. Going to crack on with the sequel tonight, I think.

Thought Omaha was good but it was very Sundance
I liked Chef for being a nice relaxing sort of film - you know, nothing special but equally no missteps. No idea how you’ll do with it.
I guess annoyingly for the third one you have two choices. I’ve only seen the original and I thought it was basically as good as the other two, even if Sophia Copolla isn’t up to the level required for all her scenes.
(Watching all three back to back actually made GF pt 2 feel maybe the least of them as a lot of plot threads felt reused but obviously still a cracking film if you’re into it.)
Chef is probably one of the worst offenders of “director is the lead so the love interests are played by incredibly attractive women”

was just about to respond to the chef chat above with this exact post. never seen it because it’s utterly laughable that any character would be choosing between ScarJo and Sofia Vergara. Favreau getting with Marissa Tomei in the marvel films is pushing it enough tbh.

The Wrong Girls? The Wrong Film For Everyone Involved (2026) more like.
Thought Leviticus was pretty good. Well trodden ground but thought it was well enough executed and had some charm. Very it follows-y
some films i watched recently:
Colony - was really looking forward to this as i loved train to busan and while there were some really good moments in this overall it was a bit disappointing.
Masters of the universe - can barely remember the original and i would have probably given this a miss but a friend really enjoyed it. Anyway i also enjoyed it, very tongue in cheek and good fun albeit a good 20mins too long. Was disappointed to find out at the end that leto was skeletor.
