I didn’t enjoy to watch Tremors (1990)

Might be the best time I had watching a film in all of lockdown

A Korean film about a time travelling telephone

Yeah. That one’s brilliant. Made my top 10 of last year.

Did a double bill last night of:

The Dead Don’t Die - this really was a proper stinker huh? Just felt like it fell flat in every way. Wasn’t gripped, no laughs, just very nothing. Really hated all the meta stuff about the script and soundtrack. Plus the whole alien / UFO thing - blah no!

Sightseers - Had been wanting to see this for a while and it definitely didn’t disappoint. Excellently captured exploring the English countryside and going to odd museums. Loved how offbeat and warped it all felt. One thing I didn’t like though was that I feared something bad was going to happen to Banjo / Poppy and that really put me on edge

Yeah, hated it, found it very annoying from the first minute. Don’t really like that sort of thing

Watched Molly’s Game a couple of nights ago. Pretty decent, held together by a really good performance from chastain, solid support all round.
Sorkins dialogue for me is either just about tolerable or fucking nauseating, this was just about tolerable.

Continued catching up the John Carpenter movies I hadn’t seen before. A Sam Neill double bill

Yesterday I watched In the Mouth of Madness. Here Sam Neill is the protagonist. It’s very silly, and doesn’t quite get across what I think the writer intended, but there’s a lot of creepy practical effects. Also the film features Francis Bay, who completely the trifector of being in an episode of Seinfeld, a John Carpenter movie and a recurring(?) character in Twin Peaks. I mean, she’s in one episode and the movie. That counts as reccuring, right?

Today I watched Memoirs of an Invisible Man, which is probably the least Carpenter-y of his movies. Sam Neill plays the villain here, a CIA agent trying to capture the invisible man (Chevy Chase, who looks absolutely bored of being on screen, even by his low standards). The effects are kind of fun, but really dated-looking. Apparently Ivan Reitman was the original director but kept arguing with Chevy Chase, and it really shows that Carpenter was kind of phoning it in a bit. Also a bit of a treat to see Jim Norton (aka Bishop Brennan from Father Ted) make an appearance! Looking at Norton’s imdb page, he’s been in so much stuff, but I’d only knowingly seen him in Father Ted before today.

Watched dead don’t die last night too. Was on board at first but fuck me, the ending was so, so poor

Couldn’t even get on with the anti consumerist message. Just felt so on the nose and naff.

Anyway. I’m currently watching Eurotrip for the first time. Got given it. Road trip is a guilty pleasure but this has aged like milk

It’s one of mine too. Also agree with you r.e Dead Don’t Die. I was disappointed and thought it just dragged on a bit much.

watched Far North (2007)- an Asif Kapadia fiction one where 2 nomads on a frozen tundra find an exhausted Sean Bean (!) who falls in love with one of them. It’s really slow but looks beautiful and then out of nowhere, has a really extreme horror ending. It was certainly unique

Good Boys - I remember seeing this advertised thinking it was just Superbad for kids but its a lot more than that. Sweet, charming and funny - if you liked Blockers, you’ll like this

Good Boys was great.

Some brilliant scenes and one liners. I liked the bit where one kid finds “weapons” in his parents closet.

yeah it was a lot funnier than expected, the reviews made it seem all crass or gross out which isn’t the case for the majority of it at all and when it is (like the scene you mentioned), it is actually funny

Recently watched:

The Player - Robert Altman’s Hollywood satire. Tim Robbins is the film producer who’s getting threatening mail. Features a plethora of Hollywood A and B listers. Enjoyed it but inevitably was one for the film industry and critics. 7.5/10.

To All The Boys: PS I Love You - Enjoy the first one and now the sequel too. Lana Condor is again brilliant and I forgot how sharp her sister is also. Condor struggles to come to terms with being a girlfriend for the first time. An excellent support cast and a smart coming of age drama comedy series so far. Look forward to the third part. 8/10.

Fear Street Part Three: 1666 - No spoilers apart from the fact that there’s dodgy accents all round. This one’s a bit over long and like the others it’s average. I’ll give this one and the series 6/10.

Tremors 5: Bloodlines - Ok but not as good as Tremors 4 or 7. 5.5/10.

Yeah it all felt quite lazy - like just by saying “It’s all going to end badly” and then it does, doesn’t make it satisfying.

Marty is great, it’s just a really nice little film. Didn’t realise it won an Oscar.
