Finally got around to watching Nomadland on Disney+. Really enjoyed it and I’d only really heard that Bob was starring in himself in the film so reading after that most of the nomads were played by nomad actors was interesting. If I had more reading time I’d be interesting in checking out the original book.

It’s a shame they couldn’t (well I’m guessing) be more honest about life working for Amazon but obviously there’s not really an obvious way to address that within this context legally and make the film the way it is.

Just re-joined Odeon Limitless. Game on.

Watched Daybreakers on Amazon Prime last night. Decent enough watch.

I can’t remember who posted this on here first, but I watched it again last week, and god, I miss going to the cinema.

Probably going to go see the new Saw film, what a way to mark a cinema return

Were you a member right up until they shut?

Not sure if they’re just reactivating mine or I have to re-sign up

I’ll sound like a broken record but I’m not sure when I’ll be back at a cinema.

I’m a member of The BFI and The ICA and completely agree with the necessary measures there including wearing masks but the prospect of wearing a mask to watch a film doesn’t really appeal.

Yeah I cancelled it in March 2020 so I just signed up again. Its £9.99 a month (+£2 for central London) and only three month minimum commitment now.

Ah, I left mine running because they stopped taking payments anyway.

Spoke to them and they cancelled it in January, for reasons unknown, so going to have to sign up again

Hope I can sort it tonight so I can go see terminator 2 tomorrow

Well I thought Nomadland was very good anyway

The films I watched this weekend (in order of watching them and interestingly also ascending order of how much I liked them) were

Arrival
Ringu
Donnie Darko
Whisper of the Heart

Theres definitely a 9 / 10 movie in the Mitchells vs the Machines, it just needs @20 to 30 mins cutting out.

And it wouldn’t be hard, there’s more than half that in over extended or repetitive “they love each other but are from different generations” scenes about the dad and daughter.

Bad Words has some funny moments, but is basically a public service film demonstrating to anyone watching how anti Asian racism is apparently open season for comedy in the US at the moment

 Was me.

Arrival is probably in my top 5 films, absolutely brilliant piece of filmmaking. I also watched Donnie Darko again recently, and it still holds up, great film.

My girlfriend has a huge thing for Jake Gyllenhaal (I mean so do I, who wouldn’t) so have been watching some of his films we haven’t seen before - watched Wildlife which was quite an unsettling little film, It was well made (think it was Paul Dano’s Debut?) but not really one I’d be in a hurry to watch again.

I also caught a film on BBC over the weekend that I didn’t even know existed and it was only from 2019…Long Shot with Seth Rogan and Charlize Theron, didn’t watch it all but pretty easy going film if you’re into that Seth Rogan type silly humour.

enjoyed that quite a lot, but glad I saw it in the cinema. Had quite a good woozy atmosphere there, but think it would have lost me a bit on a home screen

Was very into arrival for the majority of it and went off it massively over the last half hour or so. Irks me more than fully disliking something when it drops off a cliff like that for me.

Might be linked to Renner being one of my all time most disliked screen presences. Hate him so much

Yeah I can definitely imagine that. Felt quite claustrophobic in a sense considering it’s set in the middle of Montana but guess that’s what they were going for. Some of the scenes with the mother really were uncomfortable.
