Was Broker at a film fest? Excited to see it, loved Shoplifters
Yes, 4 of those on the best list are from Leeds International Film Fest.
My November bests…
The Father of my Children
Things to Come
DUNE (2021)
Cow
She Said
Aisha
Hoping to see Carol at the cinema if I can.
Fairly hyped for Avatar 2. Got to try and see it in the IMAX for sure
Glad we’ve found the person who actually saw Confess, Fletch
Not confident that I did tbh
I always read “Glass Onion” in my head to the tune of Brass Monkey by the Beastie Boys
ha! when i asked for a ticket, the cashier looked at me like i was from mars. i said it was on their website, so they rang the manager “it’s been taken off”.
i went back a few days later and was the only person in screening!
I’ve been in one screening where I was the only person there, was great.
Remember when I worked at one, I Love You Beth Cooper played when not one person boufht a ticket. It was still shown
a thing i like to do in december is watch films while im working as a little treat, mainly coz i dont tend to be as busy this time of year and also i feel like i deserve it so there we go. last year i watched every resident evil film coz id seen the first one and thought it was daft but watchable, so i thought having them on in the background while i work would be fun. wow do those films get silly
i had fun. anyway this year i found an article about the alien and predator films and their shared universe and what order they should be watched in chronologically, and also included blade runner and that, so ive decided to watch them. heres the order:
Prey
Predator
Predator 2
Alien vs Predator
Alien vs Predator Requiem
The Predator
Predators
Blade Runner
Soldier
Blade Runner 2049
Prometheus
Alien Covenant
Alien
Aliens
Alien 3
Alien Resurrection
some rough patches there but theyre all on disney+ apart from Soldier (1998), which ive never even heard of so prob fuck that one. ive seen about half of them before, some are incredible, some are iffy, some are boring, should be fun! good that ive got the two blade runner films in the middle and the first two alien films towards the end, four of the best films ever there so that should keep me going through the dark stretches of yer AvPs and that. watched Prey the other week, that was really good, currently got Predator on. love arnie, forgot how grossly sexist and homophobic the scene in the chopper on the way in was. good film tho ![]()
Wait, Blade Runner is in the Predator / Alien cinematic universe?
verrrry tangentially
whatever makes that middle stretch more palatable, I guess.
throw in “Gladiator” while you’re at it ![]()
please watch this, it looks cack
turns out its on prime, but you have to pay like ÂŁ8 for it. im not searching for a torrent, thats for sure ![]()
Absolutely love stuff that relies on ancillary material, because I always assume some nerd like me wrote it and put it in for a laugh, nobody from the license holder noticed it, and - bam - it’s now canon. Sort of.
46 in November! Sure about half that was my week+ with covid quarantined in the bedroom.
Recently watched:
The Black Phone - One of the hyped horrors of this year. Had a thought of “I hope it’s not another Saint Maud hyped film” before putting it on.
Enjoyed it a lot. Liked the 70s tinged filming. The main kid was good but the main kid’s sister was a brilliant young actress. More a thriller than a horror but an excellent one. You knew more or less what was going to happen but very enjoyable ride. 8/10.
The Blue Lamp - Post war British police film where Dirk Bogarde shoots Dixon Of Dock Green in his first appearance as that character. Ok enough. Inevitably it’s aged a bit badly but decent. 5.5/10.
Troll - New one on Netflix. Nowhere near as good as Troll Hunter from 10 years ago or so. That film had some good science in it as well as a grumpy disgruntled unpaid and not unionised Troll Hunter.
This one started off well and had potential before settling down to being a very average monster vs the military film with as usual only a few including the scientist on the side of the monster. The giant troll was ok, didn’t look too shit or stupid but reminded me of one of The Bushwhackers from WWF. 5/10.
