Google stuff has been kind to me, but I don’t get the new TV streamer?
What is point? If you have a 4k tv, surely if already does streaming?
I’m pretty thick, so maybe I’ve got it wrong.
Is it google’s version of apple tv?
The answer is usually that yes, your tv can do almost everything this google box does, but the google box will do it better and faster and smoother

I have a 4K TV, but it doesn’t have an app for now TV, and it isn’t upgradeable, so I guess a lot of apps don’t work directly on the TV, so this puts it on one place and bypasses it. I just use my Xbox.

A lot of people still have TVs that aren’t smart, I guess. I mean, those Fire Sticks are amazing for those without consoles or if they don’t want to plug their laptop into a TV like a skint 00s student.
Those things are £20 though? This is £100!
I think this will be the main reason people buy it. New TV sales (by volume) peaked in 2020 during the pandemic, but have been in decline since then, and as most households now have a flat screen 40-inch+ TV and it s reaching saturation point.
That means that there will be a lot of TVs that aren’t supported by firmware or app updates, or apps that work for some makes of TV, but aren’t available for others (eg BFI)
This device will bypass all that faff like an Apple TV and firestick do.

Yeah I’ve got an Apple TV even though my TV is theoretically a big 4K smart TV because the built-in software is dogshit. It’s slow, crashes all the time, the streaming is crap quality and it uploads fucktons of data to Samsung whenever I use it.
(After getting the Apple TV I blocked the TV from the network and it got much faster to do stuff like change channel or switch inputs. Weird, that; almost like stopping it from phoning home after every little thing makes for a better experience)

Hmm, might try this. Only thing stopping me is having to use ps5 etc for streaming and pulling more power from the grid

yeah my parents bought a brand new LG tv the other day and it was completely unusable out of the box, the memory on it is so shit it crashes before you can even open an app, so you have no choice but to use a 3rd party bit of kit. absurd really.

I’ve got a smart tv, but it’s not smart enough to be able to use any of the latest versions of apps, so on the Apple TV now

Yeah, this seems to be a replacement for the Chromecast which they used to sell for £30-50 for different versions. Seems like they think they can sell the same thing in a slightly different package for a lot more, but it’s definitely put me off.
What’s the advantage of this over a 4k firestick? Is it just that you can chromecast?
You can link it to a Bluetooth speaker and your video camera doorbell too, so it’s a combined smart device hub thing as well as a TV box
