- WRESTLEMANIA 13 Submission Match: Bret Hart beat “Stone Cold” Steve Austin when special ref Ken Shamrock stopped the match
- WRESTLEMANIA 17 TLC match for World Tag Team Titles: Edge & Christian beat The Dudley Boys (c) & The Hardy Boyz to win the title
gone with my heart
Ahh, I do vaguely remember that triple tag match now - utter madness. Of the two though, gotta go with the Austin vs Hart match which I remember staying up to watch and being blown away by.
Had to go TLC. The ladder spear, the insane swantons, Bubba with a ladder on his head, Heyman and JR losing their minds, the run-in spots - especially Spike’s acid drop through the table. Only 1 noticeably botched spot with Jeff’s ladder walk.
The overall pacing too - some modern ladder matches take forever this feels like a desperate scramble and even though the thing barely stretches 15m they pack everything in and they’re basically all dead for 90% of it.
Am hearing that Sean has arranged for a celebrity to accept the trophy on behalf of the winning match - and for Pete’s sake, you’ll never GueASs who it’s going to be!
From a wrestling and story POV it’s got to be Brett Vs Austin. From a spectacle POV it’s TLC. Tough
Yeah Bret vs Austin is obviously technically the better (best of all time) match, but that TLC hits a perfect balance of absolute chaos, great wrestling/storytelling and happening on the show of the peak of the most popular era, Attitude. I think Bret vs Austin should win but I also can’t deny the alternative
bah gawd… that’s… Linda McMahon’s music??
(I’m just glad the ladder match beat Taker vs Shawn at 25, which while obviously very good, I do find a teensy bit overrated)
Prepping the Bret eye roll GIF in readiness for this ending the way I fear it’s going to end
It’s the cursed ratio! TLC2 takes it, 52-48
Well done to Matt, Jeff, lita, bubba, d-von, spike, edge, Christian and rhyno
Good name for a finisher
I love it and in the moment watching it live my head totally fell off BUT I think its legacy on modern wrestling has been a really negative one.
The WWE formula for main events now is finisher spam. That match felt special because you didn’t really see people kick out of finishers like that, each one made you believe.
One of my main issues with the extreme era - the pace quickened forever, storylines had to be up and down and dealt with before the next PPV, matches were conducted largely outside the ring. It killed the style of the golden era - but the golden era had already been destroyed by bad angles and stupid gimmicks.
Yeah, I’m not a fan of the outside the ring stuff, especially when they go through the crowd. It’s so overdone.
Finn Balor and Kyle O’Reilly had a banger 4 years or so ago and the whole thing happened in the ring. More of that please.
