Based on the thread about the NME returning to print, I was wondering what music magazine, periodicals or fanzines people on here read.
I started picking up Maggot Brain earlier in the year, which I have been really enjoying reading. In the last few years I’ve also been buying Gold Flake Paint and Dynamite Hemorrhage when they publish stuff.
I’d be interested to see if this topic gives me inspiration for other mags to read.
Loud and Quiet - used to just pick it up for free just whenever I saw it but got a subscription now as they really needed some funds. Nice to not miss any and get the free flexi discs.
The Thin Air - Free magazine about Irish music, I write for it but would be picking it up even if I didn’t
Try and pick up a free copy of Totally Dublin when I’m in Dublin which isn’t exclusively a music magazine but has a decent music section
Have occasionally bought issues of Mojo or Uncut or The Wire in the last while if they’ve had some decent features but not very often. Will have a look at them in the shop and see if there’s anything decent in them.
I’m not always great at sitting down and reading them properly though.
Uncut reviews are pretty decent and cover a surprisingly wide range of stuff, and they occasionally do interviews with pretty DIS friendly artists
The features on classic rock can do one though, ‘oh look an 11 page feature on ringo starrs toilet habits in may 1967’
Also most people here would prob never pick up a copy due to the 8 millionth Beatles/stones/who covers
I’ve picked up their special issues on Pavement and Pixies and picked up the one with the National CD. Think that one had a good Cian Nugent feature too which was nice to see
Still read Mojo, love me some dadrock. Front covers sometimes make me groan but i think they’re ever so slowly featuring more women and less of the same old suspects. Articles inside are frequently great, and the reviews section sends me to loads of good stuff
Big fan of Electronic Sound, here. Well designed mag, best reviews section in the biz (imo), constantly learning new things and endangering my wallet every issue.
