Country music is fucking great, so I would imagine that’s why. The current major label mainstream stuff is largely shite, but that could be said of almost any genre. In particular, anyone with even a passing interest in Scottish/Irish folk music would definitely find a lot to like in country.
There was a popular queer country music movement which was known as “the yeehaw agenda” in the mid 2010s, and it’s trickled up into the mainstream.
