What’s the one album everyone needs to hear before finalising their albums of the year list?

I’d second this. It’s very very good.

Late to the party, but I’ve just bought the Mermaid Chunky album - probably missed by a lot of people because it’s a bit weird, and doesn’t fall nicely into any particular genre, but it’s very enjoyable indeed. Equal parts silly and banging. Features recorders.

I can’t take credit for suggesting it before, I got into it off the back of @bruised_blood posting it in the new release thread last month, but agree about how good it is.

Mermaid Chunky would have been my first suggestion as well. This is my track of the year:

A very recent discovery for me but I’ve fallen very hard for this new Annie Hamilton album

Catchy indie synth with bits of dreampop. Bags of charm and melody. If there is such a thing as ‘polished bedroom pop’ then this is that.

Yup, it’s really great!

For me, it’s Adult Jazz’s latest album ‘So Sorry So Slow’. Like their first album, it took a couple of listens to warm up to it, but then it crawled inside my head and now I think it’s one of my favourites of this decade so far. Sort of experimental disjointed arty indie rock, I guess, but that description does it no justice. It is a thing all of its own.

I keep coming back to Everything Everything’s “Mountainhead” and I recommend folks give it another spin.

It sounds so unique, like no other band out there right now. Yep, you can hear tonnes of their influences yet it’s leaps ahead of their earlier albums (which are also fantastic!).

Probably the album that has made me happiest this year is the new one from MGMT. It’s their best yet

The debut album from Belfast’s Virgins is the best shoegaze album for a long long time

I’m not going in protest at them not headlining.
That and the fact I’m sadly busy.

BABii doesn’t mess about on the best project she’s put out to date - only three tracks over three minutes long, out pops most popstars, out bangs most club stuff, out weirds most post club stuff.
