September is just crazy for shows! Started new seasons of South Park and You’re the Worst and looking forward to Adventure Time, Electric Dreams, The Good Place, Transparent … Still gotta start The Deuce too. Madness.
There’s a story line that takes some very hard shots at the louis ck wankgate stuff, its the angriest i’ve ever seen notaro be
Alan Sepinwall at Hitflix is my go to. He’s the original TV re-capper (started with the Sopranos back when) and he posts about loads of good shows - either reviews or just mentioning what’s coming out. Checking his list of Fall shows gave me a reminder of all the ones I listed and a few new ones to check.
AV club has definitely gone to crap, always hard to check Adventure Time write ups and fan comments there but it’s a graveyard now. Zero comments on most recent eps.
And damn, i don’t even know much of his work but he always seemed interesting and made me want to check it out one day. Can’t we have any male cultural “icons” that aren’t total creeps?
I tried to watch an episode last weekend and had no idea what on earth was happening!
Gonna get stuck into S2 tonight after watching a Recap video.
I finished Narcos season 3 yesterday. Much better show with Pablo Escobar hogging the limelight and them focusing so much on that white DEA agent (who was shit).
Quacks - BBC Victorian era comedy thing about surgeons that stars (along with about 50% of everything currently being made seemingly) Rory Kinnear. Somewhere between Blackadder and Horrible Histories, but not quite as clever or funny as either. Decent enough though.
Berlin Station - US spy thing with Berlin backdrop. Strong cast, with Richard Armitage, Rhys Ifans, Michelle Forbes and Richard Jenkins among others. Thought it was a bit style over substance initially, but then it picked up speed and drew to a decent conclusion. Probably didn’t need to be 10 episodes long really. Great Bowie scored opening credits though (think they might have been going for a Sporanos vibe?)…
Came in here specifically looking for Bob’s Burgers chat. We’re halfway through season 4 and it’s just sublime. Hilarious but also incredibly heartwarming. Tina could be my favourite character of all time.
That’s how far I am in too. It’s such a joy. Tina I think is my favourite but it’s a close competition with Linda (don’t like Louise though) The supporting cast of characters are wonderful too.
Probably the closest show I’ve seen successfully replicate the warmth and charm of early Simpsons. The animation is excellent too, fantasy sequences are usually histerical. What I particularly like about it is that within the family there’s no antagonism at all, just support, love and kindness.
