What was the best record released in 2004?

Hope of the States - the lost riots
Arcade fire - funeral
Wilco - a ghost is born
Modest mouse - Good news…
Interpol - antics
Feist - let it die
Iron & wine - our endless numbered days
Rilo Kiley - more adventurous
The Dears - no cities left
The mountain goats - we shall all be healed
Sufjan - seven swan
Stars - set yourself
Pedro the Lion - achilles heel

Garbage Picker was a tune!
Saw them supporting White Stripes once. Good band.

Saw them at least once; definitely at The Luminaire. That first album was stunning (let’s not discuss their second). They had the look and sound for a short time and produced a brilliant album.

Haven’t heard the album in a long time. I’ll listen again to see if it or I have aged well/poorly. I definitely have aged badly every other way.

I know the feeling :grinning:
Bass player joined Raconteurs and lead guy has been in a few movies (first spotted him in Walk The Line).
When I saw them the lineup was White Stripes, New York Dolls, Peaches, Blanche at an outdoor gig on a blistering hot day in Belfast if you can believe it. Weird day.

Sounds like an excellent day.

Definitely memorable!

  1. Elliott Smith - From a Basement on the Hill
  2. Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News
  3. Arcade Fire - Funeral

And three very honorable mentions to:

I think it might be the only year since 1990 where I don’t have enough for a top ten, but From a Basement on the Hill alone makes up for it.

Had to check that The Fall Of Math was released in 2004 because I was surprised no one had mentioned it.

Lost Riots is all time Top 10 for me.
Can’t pretend this would have been my list back in the day. 2004 me was obsessed with Franz Ferdinand and would never have listened to a record like Madvillainy.
