first Hollyoaks ‘event’ was Becca and Justin

oh yeah, had to look it up but my first memory of the bill is when cass rickman got murdered. they kept killing all the characters i fancied in that show

it is a repeated problematic hollyoaks trope that relationships with minors are fine if they are a boy. other problematic hollyoaks trope is anyone who was given up as a child will turn out to be a murdered

she went to prison and got stabbed for it though
although granted yeah they sort of portrayed her a bit too sympathetically

yeah and they did it again with hunter and neeta. hollyoaks often gets in a pickle where it can’t reconcile ‘true love’ and something problematic, so they just kill someone off to solve it, they did that with the incest storyline too

The incest storyline was so WEIRD! Proper car crash TV, loved it.

i’ve seen a couple of episodes of Hollyoaks during lockdown for the first time in years, and little Tom is still in it and was trying to bang a girl which made me feel ancient

also Tony seems to have a whole new family (similar to Paul Robinson in Neighbours who when i saw an episode a few years ago seemed to have a whole different set of grown up children now)

little Tom was in a throuple at one point. think tony will marry every woman in hollyoaks at some point

went down a youtube rabbit hole of related clips, came across a pretty shocking one where julie martin accuses neighbours of eating their dog

I remember going to a restaurant on holiday around the time Harold disappeared and there was a waiter who looked.just like him. We persuaded our parents to get him to pose for a photo with us. Then he reappeared!

The BBC and the programme makers were heavily criticised for the stereotypical way they portrayed Irish people.[7] Viewers were angered by scenes that they felt portrayed Irish as resentful towards English, drunk, dirty, poor and rude – one scene showed a drunk man pouring beer over Pauline Fowler (later revealed to be her brother-in-law), and then demanding payment for the drink.[7] Others were angered by the scriptwriters’ decision to include various farm animals in a street scene on the outskirts of Dublin

lol fuckin hell

Great thread this.

Can’t help think we might need a "best’ big soap event as first is somewhat different.

Bouncer’s Dream would walk that though. Oddly not available on YouTube last time I looked which was prob 5 years ago.

Ailsa seeing Bobby’s ghost face in the fridge is my personal favourite (Home and Away).
