Yes and yes

Reckon Toxic is currently leading the ‘last truly great #1’ stakes then

Just found out that Royals by Lorde got to number one too, as did Mirrors by Justin Timberlake. Again, both much better than Groovejet (don’t bother with a poll, this is an objective fact).

Is Toxic better than Hit Me Baby One More Time?

Groovejet is no longer the marker. It’s Toxic

Royals

There have been loads of great UK number 1s that have been released since Groovejet, many of which are, imho, better than groovejet.

Kylie, Girls Aloud, Britney, Beyonce, Gaga, Rihanna etc.

Wo, Green Light didn’t get number one, surprised

What’s the plan once we’ve got all the boomers in one place?

It’s arguable as to which is better (I prefer Toxic) but Toxic was definitely more recent

Royals definitely better, Mirrors probably.

Get that Top of the Pops off, it’s a racket

Why are we still arguing over songs from 2007 when WAP, blinding lights, new rules, and dozens of others exist?

They’re in another thread arguing about Queen, Radiohead & Smashing Pumpkins

Run away with me. 58 in the UK charts, forever number 1 in the UK hearts

Any thoughts on these?
2013 - Daft Punk - Get Lucky
2009 - Dizzee Rascal - Bonkers
2005 - Arctic Monkeys - Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor
2003 - TATU - All the Things She Said (although this is older than Toxic, and also better?)

Not enough nostalgia power in those new ones, that category holds them back in the Top Trumps stakes

I ought to check the charts because I’m 48 and you eventually lose touch somewhat no matter how hard you try, but surely Crazy In Love is at least more recent than some of the above?

Oh so it’s the most recent great number 1, excluding anything recent?
