Wicksteed

Went loads as a kid and saw my first bike gang fight here. Also home of the nearest skate park which you could use if you had something vaguely resembling a helmet on. Safety wasn’t a huge deal back then, a toy army helmet that offered no protection would do.

This (and the Chiltern Open Air Museum) were the closest things to my aunt when I was growing up. Used to love going to Bekonscot, but fear it doesn’t live up to my pre-school memories.

Scraped fuck out of my leg on the slide you go down in the sandbags

is there a ye olde freezershoppe too?

You’re subsidising the annual members there

Nowadays kids on microscooters have ruined everything.

everyone pays £18 though. and coach loads go every single day from all around the country and europe.

probably compensating for the fact that 85% of people who go are kids or pensioners

Went here a lot as a child (though it’s not local to me at all) as the annual family holiday was always to Great Yarmouth.

Liked it at the time, but in hindsight that town was really quite grim.

always makes me think of adam and joe :’)

Peter Pan’s Playground on Madeira Drive on Brighton beach.

There are literally no photo’s of it, but there was a rollercoaster called ‘the big apple’ that’s all i know.

Adventure Island, Southend

The barracuda used to get stuck with people upside down.

Remember being skinny enough to climb out of the cages and seats of stuff, that was terrifying

Probably Hayling Island Amusement Park for the proper oh shit is this going to kill me vibes, or one of the other standard South Coast Wanker ones already mentioned. Good deathtrap rollercoaster at Hayling, mind.

Went there a few times back in the day on those £10 deals. That tenner included return travel …from Belfast! :ferry: :bus: :roller_coaster: :ferris_wheel: :kissing_cat: :bus: :ferry:

Was still rubbish hehe

Also Paultons Park! Remember the slide and model dinosaurs quite well. Now it’s got a Peppa Pig World.

American Adventure was proper top tier, surely?

Same as @littlebirds for me - Pleasurewood Hills. That, or Skegness pleasure beach or Butlins. (Or maybe Fantasy Island in Ingoldmells, but that was kinda after my time.)

Also, Pleasure Island, Cleethorpes.

We had Charlie Cheese’s Pizza Playhouse nearby - it’s long gone (this was in Brisbane, Australia)

Proper scary looking at these puppets now, don’t remember being freaked by them when I was kid. Loved this place!

Loads of great video games, and skill test type games for tokens - and singing animated puppets that used to wish you happy birthday!

Drayton Manor. Probably top-tier rather than second tier. Got 3 or 4 decent rollercoasters and whatevs. Not been for about 10 years, it now has a Thomas [the Tank Engine] Land.

On a similar effort to Beamish Museum, the Black Country Living Museum is just up the road in Dudley. Again, not been for about 10 years but it’s alright. Mines, boiled sweets, fish and chips, canals, etc

Home of The Ultimate, formerly Europe’s longest rollercoaster, which was once ridden by Nick Berry of Heartbeat and also has decapitated two deer which stumbled on to the track in separate incidents.

I’m a 4-year veteran worker at this place too. Once you see how these places are staffed, you’re not quite so keen to go to them.

Had a few holidays in mabelthorpe and we’d head to pleasure island each time. Not many better days than lunch at Dave’s Diner (nothing finer) than a trip to pleasure island
