60 - Towels and bedsheets
40 - Clothes
30 - Rare dickhead clothes that aren’t robust enough for 40
i was also using almost triple the quantity of recomended softener for years, which is why all my shirts started falling apart randomly. glad to have stopped doing that.

30 for clothes
30, 40 or occasionally 60 for towels and bedsheets
40 for my slippers
Cold for the pillowcase for my wedge pillow, which inexplicably says it needs to be washed cold. I’m sure it would be fine to be washed at 30 but I’ve only got one case for the pillow and the pillow with case cost like 50 quid so it’s not worth the risk
60 for when the machine is being cleaned
Maybe I’d do cold for anything I wasn’t sure was colour fast?
I just put everything on 30. Is that bad?
30 for everything
30 for everything
I just put everything on Dark cottons and to hell with it.
On our washer there’s a 240-minute ‘environmental’ cycle. Could just Google it, but can’t be arsed. What gives?
No that’s fine. If you notice your towels getting smelly or whatever then you might want to give them a wash on 60. If you’re not finding your things aren’t adequately clean then you’re doing it right.
I would also like to know this - the place we stayed while our flat was being rebuilt had a machine with a cycle like that
Seems OTT. A two-hour cycle is ample.
I’m assuming it’s lower than 30° or sutin.
30 for everything
Subthread - which items do you insist on drying in the dryer rather than on the maiden (no terminology discussion, please)?
Just socks and towels for me. Don’t like the crusty socks or musty towels. Everything else I just let nature take its course.
60 for towels and bedding
30 for everything else
Socks but purely because I can’t face the thought of trying to hang up 30 of them individually.
30 for sportswear / delicates
