Just watched this over christmas. first boxset I binged, probably a good 8 years since I finished it and thought I might hate it now. Actually quite enjoyed it, felt the characters were still themselves for the most part* and it broadly had the same tone/feel as before.
Could write a lot more but @anon5266188 and @hip_young_gunslinger summaries (weirdly i agree with almost every gripe above but still found it overall quite positive?) nailed it.
Would add/emphasise though;
*Really liked Rory from the original series, thought she was good despite doing shitty things. Maybe I wouldn’t feel that way if I watched it now. But in this with her bf / Logan’s fiancee it kind’ve felt like she’s just a straight-up awful selfish person - was it that unambiguous before? Also found it unfitting Lorelai literally didn’t care about that awfulness. Also urgh if (or surely just that) Logan is the dad/pregnancy ending
Doesn’t help that Logan is literally the least likeable person I think i’ve seen in anything. I have no idea what they’re going for, but surely we’re not supposed to like him / his awful awful rich friends? Weird he was the main one they brought back
Always liked Jess tbh.
Thought the backstory and history is by far the strongest element of the show. The best parts were the conversations about Lorelai’s past and Rory’s upbringing - Lorelai’s phonecall to her mum, Chris cameo being the most worthwhile one, etc. The funeral bit felt like a ridiculous and unbelievable route to take to for Emily/Lorelai conflict though
Scheduling really really told with that final episode huh
