Halfords is alright. The one nearest me is anyway - they have an incredibly cheerful and helpful bunch of staff that patiently indulge my complete lack of car knowledge.

It’s probably the Apple store for me. Not so much shops as churches for tech bros to worship at the alter of innovation and hope to soak up The Future by osmosis. Sinister.

Those massive retail outlets like Ultimate Outdoors (and Halfords)

I used to like it when they sold random board games. But they don’t seem to do that anymore.

Used to go round the demo PCs and type the word “SEX” in big letters and walk off.

28 years old I was etc etc

Didn’t realise how bleak Go Outdoors was until we went to REI in America, where it was really obvious that everyone both really loved the outdoors and really loved working there. The person serving us was really interested in where we going and gave us loads of good tips.

Think it’s because a part of my brain still responds “ooh great it’s a book shop” - which I suppose it is, just in the worst way possible

what? in halfords?

sorry it’s too early. you are clearly talking about some kind of fishmongers, not a halfords

the tell tale “closed for refurbishment” sign (pro tip - the shop never gets refurbished)

they are openeng an argos INSIDE my local sainos soon

might actually be quite handy

At Christmas, at the one in Sainsbury’s. Before that, about a year ago to buy a Now TV box. Hope this helps.

Bought Buckaroo there for my niece just before Christmas. The ramshackle collection of chairs in the waiting area lends the place a certain vibe I’d usually associate with a dentist’s waiting room.

I don’t mind Halfords, although it does feel like 90% of the clientele are the kind of folk who don’t wash their hands after they go to the toilet.

Those ones are decent, still quite bleak but at least they smell like rotisserie chicken.

I’m not sure if they’re chains, but Glasgow does a great line in utterly soulless department stores. TJ Hughes and Watt Brothers are the worst offenders.

I’ve no idea why Argos have such vast open stores when all people are doing is looking through a catalogue and queuing up. The rents must be huge.

I do like the little in Sainsbury’s Argos stores. Order online and then just pick it up.

I’ll check back on this in an hours time and there’ll be 1200 unread replies.
