Last November I walked out of U.S.Girls’ show at Islington Assembly Hall after the start of the second song.

After Half Free, which is one of my favourite albums of this decade, I simply cannot stand the direction she had taken with In A Poem Unlimited but I went along hoping it would be ok because she is great live. However good live she is I simply couldn’t enjoy the new stuff, plus her new live arrangements for the Half Free material made me want to vomit. Just killed it for me.

Only ever walked out of one. J Mascis at the Marble Factory in Bristol. He was sat down. The stage was pretty low. I could only see his hat. ‘Bristol Legend’ Big Jeff with his massive ginger afro stood right in front of him blocking everyone’s view, seemingly oblivious to the crowd shouting to him to move to the side a bit. Me and @jimmyhuntspill left after about 45 mins i reckon?

still impressed you got all this from one song

Also, early January, water running down the walls, ice cold yet sweaty. Was like having the flu whilst trying to watch Mascis at the bottom of a well with Krusty the Clown in front of you.

Worst gig of all time.

Not counting when I’ve gone just to watch the support, Death Cab For Cutie walked out after one song. Absolute shite.

Looking at the set-list it was actually after the second song I left. Performed/murdered ‘Navy & Cream’ and ‘Windows Shades’, which are two of my favourites from Half Free, and I thought to myself nah, I’m out of here. No regrets.

Left a few Glasgow gigs before the headliner came on because they were dicks about set times. Only one I’ve left early out of choice was Cat Power because she was irritating as fuck

Yeah, back in the day when she was an absolute mess was tempted to walk out of her show at Shepherds Bush Empire (can’t remember the year) but, like witnessing the aftermath of a car crash, I just had to stay and look.

If I’ve actually made it there, I’ll tend to stick it out; I’ve bailed on far more gigs before they even start because of being too socially anxious to leave the house than I have left early. Can’t remember anything I’ve left particularly early (except at festivals, but that doesn’t count).

Yeah. I went to that. I walked out at that gig.

Was that the Shepherds Bush Empire gig where it was seated downstairs? Two people were sat in our front row seats. Me and my mate couldn’t be bothered to move the two people as we had no intention of staying.

Walked out of her gig at The Roundhouse too. Probably her next London show after SBE. It was maybe 2005-ish when The Roundhouse reopened.

Yeah, I think it was seated downstairs…spent most of that night at the bar.

That has to be one of the strangest shows I’ve ever been to. From what I can remember she spent most of the show hunched at the piano, mumbling incomprehensibles into the mic.

It was a shit gig.

I’m glad that her mental health is much better. She’s a far more confident performer on stage over the last few years.

Absolutely never bother with them. Lukewarm post rock with zany costumes and absolutely nothing else. Haven’t seen Robocobra Quartet but I’ll be avoiding them now.

Kurt Vile, like two years ago. Left after ca. half the set. The mixing was absolute shit and I felt like it is ruining the music for me.

Edit: Sounds pretentious when I read it.

tbf i can see the appeal, definitely very influenced by Slint and stuff like that, i just cannot handle the really annoying beat poetry over the top from a guy with a really annoying half-American accent (by all accounts he’s a cool and nice guy and records a lot of other bands and stuff but that fucking voice man)

when they’re supporting other bands i always try to arrive after they’ve finished but they’re always still on when i get there

they’d make a great instrumental band, but alas

Really enjoyed Boy Azooga and Gaz Coombes tonight but left before Gallagher came on. Now at home with a pint. Much more enjoyable.

Navy and Cream is such a gem, it’s a shame if she didn’t perform it well.

Know a lot of people that went and said Noel was great! I do think some of his solo material is really good tbh. General consensus was that Boy Azooga had the best set mind

Twilight Sad at the Freebutt in Brighton. Walked in, my wife said, “I’m not staying here, it’s too hot and they’ve wrecked this place.” Walked out.
