Valuable; probably a Julian Opie self-portrait which I think is worth a fair bit more than anything else in the house.

Precious; dunno…the kids? Everything else is insured. It would be a shame to lose old irreplaceable family photos but I wouldn’t say there were any that were specifically precious I dunno

Can’t really imagine running into a burning building to rescue anything inanimate …though I’d maybe grab USB sticks and a couple of hard drives on my way out of a burning building

I don’t let myself get attached to anything I’m not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if I feel the heat around the corner. Except for my wife obvs; would be completely fucked without her. Possessions-wise though, I’ve got bugger all worth worrying about. Maybe various forms of ID?

It’s a small (20cm x12cm) black vinyl screenprint on white plexiglass so not in the serious money category but still fairly businesslike

easily portable should I need to evacuate the building too I guess

I don’t currently have anything that would fetch more than say £500 if that. My early 90s Fender Strat is probably the most valuable thing but it’s not particularly precious to me.

Right now I feel like I could lose everything and it would have little effect on me but then again I also think I’m mildly depressed so that could be bullshit. I do however feel like as I get older physical things mean less and less.

Precious: not sure. I’ve got photos, but I’ve never really been one for looking back at old photos. They don’t make ipod classics any more, so I’d probably grab that on the way out.

Valuable: Hi-Fi speakers, worth around £1500 (they were acquired for free however)

Precious: Probably the speakers again. Some sentimental attachment and the fact my dad would murder me if they came to any harm

my most ‘precious’ records aren’t even particularly rare or even that great necessarily, they just remind me of when i bought them and stuff like that - although i could say the same about the CDs I bought over the years that I wouldn’t think of as valuable as I know I’ll probably never use them again ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Valuable: If you don’t count a music collection as a single object, then it’s probably our boiler, maybe? Outside of that and our kitchen appliances, some of our furniture is worth a fair bit now (we picked it up in sales or have got it on ebay and restored it).

Precious: probably my external hard drive, as I’ve not completed the process of uploading everything to the cloud yet, but even then, I don’t know that I’d run into a burning building to get it.

There was something special about waiting for a record to be released then being at HMV on the morning to buy it before rushing home with your new-found treasure.

Even more so, the feeling of finding a record you have coveted after having leafed through hundreds of covers at numerous record shops. Unbridled joy.

Having access to pretty much any track at the click of a mouse is obviously progress… but the romance has gone somewhat.
