I think Bummed and Pills and Thrills are both great albums, actually, but I do slightly prefer Bummed which I think is a true classic of its time.
For some reason they are a massively underrated band. It’s probably partly their slightly cartoonish image (partly their fault, partly a creation of middle class southern music journalists) and partly the steepness of their fall.
Two great albums and five or six great singles is better than most people manage in a career. I would also say that when I saw them live in 1989 they were one of the greatest live bands I’ve ever seen.
