Modest Mouse

I was thinking of Nowhere - Tarantula to be honest. That is quite a fall. The fact that Creation deleted Tarantula after a week out of embarrassment says it all really.

I agree the post-reformation records have been ok.

‘Tarantula’ really is jaw-droppingly shite. Cool cover though.

Given Arcade Fire, Kozelek (tit) and Weezer have been done, I’ll offer up Vampire Weekend.

The worst however is Viet Cong. That shift to Preoccupations was the death knell for them

First Preoccupations album was good. Second one wasn’t. Were still great live when I saw them last year.

Good is pushing it in my mind. You are right, they’re very decent live

Certainly not the worst but I think there’s an argument for saying the strokes. I wouldn’t say they’ve hit ‘solid shit’ status by any means but have quite impressively dropped from the levels of their amazing debut and kickstarting a genre, to just being a bit meh

Liquid shit then?

Modern Vampires Of The City is the best Vampire Weekend album by a country mile

Maybe I was just the right age for Silent Alarm when it came out, but it still strikes a chord with me to this day when I hear something from it.

Weekend in the city had Flux, which was pretty great, but also the rest of the album.

Next album was shite. Last album was cringeingly shite. They may have done one in between, can’t rember. 'twas probably shite.

Weekend in the city is very ropey in places

That’s what I meant - flux was great, but the rest of the album was… not. Actually, I didn’t work that at all clearly did I?

ah right sorry! yeah like it’s half great half atrocious

Pretty much every band that started in the early 70s and made it into the 80s deserves a place in this thread. Have The Rolling Stones even been mentioned yet?

(ignore everything after the second syllable)

Flux isn’t even on my version of the album (think it was added on a later reissue).

i did like that album at the time but looking at the tracklisting now i have no memory of about half of it. Hunting For Witches was good though.

Three fairly good albums, a decent one (Viva La Vida) on which I’d only ever go back to listen to 3 songs, and then shit. Like absolute complete generic top 40 sounding shit.

I’ve heard this has to do with Chris Martin having bad taste and them partering up with Brian Eno for their 5th album causing the issue.

And they weren’t even that good to start with

But they partnered up with Eno for Viva La Vida, who in turn invited Jon Hopkins to the party. That was loads better than X&Y. But I agree that after VLV that it was downhill very fast, in the process inspiring all those terrible bland indie pop bands (Bastille and all that).

Taylor Swift 1st half of ‘Lover’ to the 2nd half of ‘Lover’
