What's your favourite teen comedy film(s)?

Mean Girls (top by a mile)
American Pie 1+2 (though they’d awfully misogynistic in a modern light)
Cruel Intentions
The Breakfast Club
Empire Records
Detention (the most balls out insane movie I’ve ever seen)

Set entirely at a party cos the filmmakers realised that was always their favourite bit in teen movies, and featuring basically everyone from the late 90s / early 00s

As enjoyable as loads of these films are, there’s something very troubling to me about the way in which their tropes lend themselves to the normalisation of abhorrent and abusive behaviour. Particularly the “you need to go through the bad boys to find a good one” sort of nonsense that is completely ubiquitous and accepted as a trope even in modern examples.

Think I liked fast times at ridgemont high but it’s been ages since I’ve watched ot

A lot of the ones I can think of don’t just normalise it - they celebrate it.
