As enjoyable as loads of these films are, there’s something very troubling to me about the way in which their tropes lend themselves to the normalisation of abhorrent and abusive behaviour. Particularly the “you need to go through the bad boys to find a good one” sort of nonsense that is completely ubiquitous and accepted as a trope even in modern examples.
