I bought that at an Asda in 1992 and bankrupted the piggy bank of BMS1 with that purchase. Easily my most played CD ever. I just haven’t see that version of their IRS years best of mentioned much.
(I’ve subscribed to an annual subscription of pipe and slippers magazine and have bought several kilograms of Werther’s Originals on the back of my top 3 there).
REM - Out Of Time
Placebo - Singles
ABBA Gold
The Essential Leonard Cohen
Sam Cooke - Portrait Of A Legend 1951-1964
Tom Waits - Asylum Years (Not perfect as a time-period best of, but it was the first Tom record i ever owned)
The real answer is Abba Gild, obvs but…we got that covered.
Yeah this would be my number 4 I think.
Ash - Intergalactic Sonic Sevens
Beastie Boys - Anthology: The Sounds of Science
Smashing Pumpkins - Rotten Apples
Honourable mention to Bjork’s Greatest Hits from 2002 and Neil Young’s Decade
Reckon it’s just a ‘what you heard first’ thing? Guess if you’ve listened to one a lot the other tracklisting just sounds a bit off.
Wave of Mutilation was the one my dad owned without having any studio albums so listened to it all the time when I was a kid. Listened to Death to… Later and it just didn’t feel right
Very fairly listen to best ofs. Think the only ones I have listened to out of choice are…

Chic - Les Plus Grands Succes de Chic
Sly and the Family Stone - Anthology
Blondie - The Best of Blondie
The Cure - Staring at the Sea
The Cure - Galore
idk, maybe Björk?
Pixies - Death to The Pixies
Ash - Intergalactic Sonic 7s
Beatles - Blue album
By an absolute mile:
The Immaculate Collection (Madonna)
Greatest Hits (The Cure)
then take your pick, idk, 20 Golden Greats (The Beach Boys)
