gonna take a big rip on both and find out

i know neither so can’t help, sorry

I heard radioheads are good though you should try them

they’ve had their day now it’s time for somebody else to be listened to by Bamnan

Both are worth a listen but I think Chappell Roan would be more up your street.

Chapell Roan is more joyful and fun, which I think is Bam style

Charli is more ironic, jaded fun, imo

Chappell is booze & cigarettes

Charli is pils & powder

Round 1

Chappel - Feminonimon
nice string intro, enjoyable melody was getting into the Springsteen widescreen start to it all, now it’s got really cringe, maybe it’s just too meta for me, can’t it just be a nice song? It’s like the youtube comedy quick cut to a meme has infiltrated the music here. 3/10

Charli XCX - 360
It’s ok, hard to feel much about this, nice and steady but sounds pretty disposable, feels like a strange anticlimactic way to open an album but maybe that’s the point? Takes less risks than the Chappell track which works in it’s favour for me at least 5/10

1 - 0 to Charli CXC

I have never heard a note of Chappell Roan (knowingly) but I read this on Substack yesterday and it was an impressive bit of invective. How true it is I don’t know and please don’t tell me:

I think brat is a good pop record of our day.

Round 2

Chappell - Guilty Pleasure

This seems more like it, relaxing, I like the ethereal backing vocals. Interesting change up here, wasn’t sure at first but it’s working better than the first track, nice interesting melody and vocal inflections, cool chorus and dreamy bridge and big rich wide vocals 8/10

Charli XCX - Club Classics
There’s stuff I like about this like the big washy synth and the disaffected vocal but it’s also just kind of annoying…it’s interesting though, could be one of those things that grows on me over time when I think about the purpose of the track rather than just listening to it in the moment. Good big squelchy bass at the end though, I bet all the clubheads love this! 6/10

1 all to everyone

Hold them under your chin on a sunny day, then you’ll find out

Been some absolutely ridiculous discourse on this subject which seems a bit like Chappells not paid her dues by not doing the male gay club circuit to start out

Round 3

CHappell - Red Wine Supernova - This is a great song, very infectuous, who doesn’t like this kind of chord progression when there’s something fun and confident over the top of it? Makes me feel happy and isn’t that the point of being alive? 9/10

Charli - Sympathy is a knife - I like the crunchiness and the cool vocoder, very big and spacious in the second section…probably need to listen to this louder than I am really. 8/10

Both good tracks for sure but I’ll have to give it to Chappell

2 - 1 to Roan

yeah I’m feeling a bit burnt out but they’re both nice!

Some people listen to new music all the time, how do they do it??

gonna sack off this Charli XCX record and just listen to this as it seems pretty average in comparison but the Chappell Roan album might be something special!

Uninspiring choruses
