This p much - I enjoy seasons 5-7 but it’s a lot more formulaic.

Leslie because she is a magical unicorn baby.

Ron and Andy because they’re Ron and Andy. A fourth vote would’ve gone to April.

Sad to see Donna hasn’t gotten a single vote, but it is a tough competition with this crew.

As mentioned above series 2-4 were perfect but I gave up after series 5 because all the characters became incredibly irritating and I couldn’t be bothered with all the ‘feels’.

Ron, Leslie and April by the way.

racism obvs

Had completely forgotten who Mark is, had to google.

he was an OK character. just left out the blue with no prior warning, as far as I can remember. weird

It was rather cruel that the show never mentioned his existence EVER AGAIN (not that I can recall anyway) after he left. Not even when Ann was talking about exes of hers. He wasn’t a great character but he wasn’t that bad.

first season wasn’t great but i missed him after he went, paul schneider’s good

As IF April is doing this well. She’s fully rubbish, and also quite an awful person in seasons 4/5. Eg - when she goes to Washington with Ben and she draws those pictures of him and embarasses him in front of his colleagues and basically betrays his trust like a dick.

In fairness, some of the people voting for her say it’s because they fancy her.

Sup.

NBC was so terrible in terms of its sitcom lineup that it never got cancelled. It’s more like five and a half seasons anyway as everyone ignores the first one and the final one is half the length of the others

Finally watching this on Amazon - shall I just stop after season 4 then?

Lmao I didn’t realise this thread was TWO YEARS OLD

Used to love this show. Then we had amazon prime for a few months and I basically hate-watched it, was really weird. Wish I could write good cos there’s so many things I’d want to say about it.

Think the thing I hate about it most, after it’s awful politics that have dated terribly, is the way they treat the camera and the audience. I hadn’t noticed before but they actually do loads of talking heads scenes where the character is supposed to be reacting to something that’s happening in the middle of another scene. Like, it’s as if the camera crew just asked everyone to pause for a minute, stay still, cos they need to get a reaction from x… Okay now carry on as you were. For a show that’s so desperate for a sort of grounded authenticity it kinda betrays how cloying and nonsensical and false everything about it is. Using pomo techniques to gear the show towards manufacturing audience emotion, rather than creating valuable stories and characters that generate moments more organically, is just as cynical as the X Factor or whatever.

not really one of those programmes that benefits from overthinking the structure, sure

Watch up to season 6 but don’t bother with season 7.

I love parks and rec so much.

I’ve watched/do watch a lot of reality TV and they do that a lot.

Admittedly watching season 2 with Louis CK and Aziz Ansari cracking jokes about being creepy was very uncomfortable. Since he’s left it’s been way more enjoyable.

i don’t know what is bad about its politics but I quite like that it shows the cake and eat it mentality of the general public, which is something you don’t see a lot in depictions of politics, normally its politicians who are depicted badly (which is fair but the public are responsible too
