Who has bought into the hygge hyppe, then?

Never heard of hygge

Pint of Guinness reminds me of autumn.

I dunno, I do kind of think that you have to have been living an internet-free existence to have missed the articles on it that have been everywhere in the past couple of weeks.

Seems like it’s blown up more than usual this year because there are a couple of books about it coming out. Kinda like what happened with fika a year or so back too.

Fair: I have been massively cutting back on my Twitter use and follow very few Friends on FB now. Additionally I have completely given up paying attention to any news sites or TV news because the complete annihilation of all leftism has left me too angry to contemplate current affairs.

Alright then:

“I do kind of think that you have to have been very very selective with your internet browsing, and have never been to, or read any tourist information, on Denmark, Copenhagen or its culture, to have never heard of the concept of hygge.”

  • I went to Gothenburg last year (kinda the same thing), and hadn’t heard of it.

  • I read the Guardian website for news / schrapnel, and have never noticed it.

  • List posts are fun.

If you went to Gothenburg, you’ll have heard of ‘fika’ though, right?

The two things are different concepts, but in terms of how and where they’ve been discussed in the UK, and in pretty much EVERY tourist guide, they’re very similar.

yeah, this, mainly but Copenhagen rather than Gothenburg

Baffling.

It’s like a visitor coming to the UK and being surprised that we drink tea.

You mean Swedeish second breakfast? It was awesome, yeah. Had never heard of it before going there, though.
