My Buffy mad friend is chatting to me about each episode. Didn’t think Beer Bad was as awful as everyone makes out, there were about 7/8 episodes in the first season that were similar to it in concept. Just a silly Monster of the Week kinda thing wasn’t it.
Apparently Beer Bad was written to get money from some government anti-drugs campaign, but didn’t get anything because it wasn’t realistic enough. That Mary Whitehouse type moral makes it worse than those series one episodes, for me, but I do think it’s become exaggeratedly bad in people’s memories (I’m rewatching series four at the moment).
I guess I’m more surprised by Seth Green because SMG at least said she stood with survivors in her Instagram but two posts earlier is a happy birthday to Seth Green who she says she’s been friends with for 36 years, so I just figured he’d be ready to say something too.
Agreed, except for the episode I watched today where Hal is sneaking fatty foods into Lois’s diet as she gets distressed at getting bigger and bigger… And the payoff is that Hal just really likes fat arses
Urgh just had a thought - series 9/comics spoilers it’s widely acknowledged that Xander is Joss Whedon’s self insert character. I was uncomfortable about the fact that Xander ends up getting together with Dawn and now with Michelle’s revelations about how inappropriate he was on set it’s taken on a whole new layer of ick.
We’ve been doing this (along with Taskmaster, which we’d somehow missed first time around) and it’s been great. Watching Buffy now is kind of like watching Darkplace, so much of it is so ridiculous and hammily done, but in a massively enjoyable way. MITM though, that’s just straight up great (occasional clanger aside). The traffic jam one early in S2 where Lois completely loses her shit is amazing. She’s such a great actor.
A mixed bag for me. My over-riding feelings are that I wish I’d gotten into it when I was 12-14, but I think I dismissed it as a girl’s show or some other stupid shit.
Was most into it from the tail-end of s3 to the end of s5. s7 was a clusterfuck but quite fun in places. My favourite episodes were Hush, the musical, the one where they forget who they are, and another one that I forget. Seem to be pretty standard opinions it seems.
Joss really loved killing women off huh? Tara’s death didn’t sit that well with me, and Anya’s in the final ep was bullshit, especially with that prick Xander making quips 2 seconds after being told about it. Joyce’s death was harrowing, and those few episodes were fantastic.
Spike is a terrific character and his arc was by far the most engaging thing in the show for me. Comfortably the most entertaining, interesting and (often) sympathetic character. Also loved Anya, Giles, Faith, Cordy, and really enjoyed Lorne and Fred on Angel too. Couldn’t give half a slice about Buffy, Xander, Angel or Oz.
Giles and Wesley are hot
think that’s all my thoughts, I shall now read through this thread and like some posts, sorry
oh yeah two more things, 1. Riley is A FUCKING DULLARD and 2. the show is at its best by far when it’s doing something creative and outside the box, like Hush or the musical. Wish it has reached for the stars more often, it nailed it when it did.
oh and 3. I hope Faith finds me and kills me
oh one more thing. still can’t make my mind up on Dawn. depends how knowing the character was. it’s very Scrappy Doo… but was that the point?
Ha ha yes haven’t watched the Riley ones since they were originally aired but yes it still annoys me how boring he is! And the one where he decides he wants to be a vampire is so cringey.
