I really should take more issue with this, but as only one of two “independent” cinemas in town it’s quite hard not to go to the Picturehouse here. Plus, screen 1 at ours may be my single favourite place in the whole world … :confused:

Do you know if some branches are better, like individual ones might pay their staff properly or is it pretty endemic across their whole network?

I know which 5 in London have been involved in strikes but I don’t think some branches being better than others is really relevant with something like this, I would rather boycott the company entirely, and it’s parent company too. I appreciate I’m in a privileged position and surrounded by cinemas mind.

I’ve always assumed that unless an ‘independent’ cinema is living wage accredited that they pay below the living wage. :man_shrugging:

Screen 2 is pretty awful haha but 1 makes up for that and more. Need to look into “sponsoring” a seat there and/or at the Filmhouse, always forget to look into that. Would love to have one for each of my parents - or maybe I’ll get greedy and just keep them for myself tbh.

Out of interest, when you say “living wage” do you mean the official national living wage set by the govt, or the “real” living wage lobbied for by https://www.livingwage.org.uk?

They get nowhere near paying this in London and just about scrape by outside of London with some heavy caveating.
