Ah, I know Urmston well. It’s a decent area and I think that does make you my closest Disser.

We’ve lived in Stretford for over a decade now, so we’re well settled round here. I think it’s a great place to live - some nice bars and places to eat, good schools, parks, transport links, Metrolink, easy access to open spaces, the canal, the mersey, quays etc. All the people around us are nice and friendly. When we’ve discussed moving house over the years, we can’t really think of anywhere around GM that would suit us as well, so tbh if we were to move in the next few years we probably wouldn’t be going very far.

I’m more towards the Flixton side, so we might have to get a ruler out if necessary.

I really like it round here, I’m only renting at the moment, and that’s coming to an end soon. Urmston is a bit out of my price range and Stretford is somewhere that might suit. I don’t know that much about it or the surrounding areas - I’ve stopped off at The Sip Club a few times after getting the tram home from a match but that’s about it. Other options are Prestwich or out towards Stockport way. Also unsure whether now is a good time to actually buy, given the forthcoming financial apocalypse.

Are there any Suffolk DiSers?

My best mates are nearer the Flixton side (near the Fox and Hounds)…have you ever got the free ferry from near there? I did it once, adorably tiny passage of water.

nah. i’m not as in to flixton as that, maybe 15 mins walk away from that pub.

i didn’t even know there was a ferry! i’ve walked across the bridge to irlam but didn’t think there was much else over there. does it just ferry you from one side to the other?

And back again!

It only exists because of some old law that came with the ownership of the ship canal/Irwell to provide free passage at that point.

You’d drive past the turnoff to mine on your way to Wigan, not sure if the m55 adds enough onto the journey to make it further though, probably about the same.

Another Cardiffian. Think I read in a pub thread that @GoFasterStripes frequents some of the same pubs as me. Either that or they travel and have excellent taste :grinning:

I can’t remember what I put in that thread but we’re spoiled for choice around our part of town. I lived in Roath for yonks as well and so I’ve a lot of good pubbing memories from there

Aye! I moved just before lockdown so haven’t had quite the chance to explore that I’d hoped. Compiling a list of pub shopping list for the future.

Yeah, one of the reasons we originally settled on Stretford was that it was an affordable area at the time. Didsbury, Chorlton, Whalley Range etc were all out of our price range, and it felt nicer than parts of Levenshulme & Burnage we looked at that were more expensive. It was kind of unfashionable at that point though - not that much going on locally and everyone on our road had lived there forever. The other half of our semi had been there since the 1940s, and next door on the other side since the 60s & our house needed updating. Prices have gone up a lot in the last few years, but probably no different to similar areas like Monton, Swinton & Prestwich…and less than the areas mentioned that were already unaffordable 10 years ago.

Big fans of the Sip Club and Heather who runs it is great - she’s been doing beer deliveries to us by bike during the lockdown! If you do consider Stretford at any point, you’re more than welcome to drop me a PM with any questions about the area etc.
