Wildlife other than birds thread πŸ¦ŒπŸ¦ŠπŸ—πŸŒ³πŸ„

No, they’re pretty swift year back I ended up in a situation years back where the terrier I was with escaped of her leash and couldn’t catch one. I think they’re healthy this was at 10pm and there’s more than one of them.

Feel a bit blessed that they’ve decided to turn up, need to set up a camera box or something.

Left the cat food directly between where they were and where I was sat and the silly goof wandered right next to me before noticing where it was.

This was about 6pm today

I knew we had badgers in the area, I caught a glimpse of two adults last Autumn but they soon legged it when I appeared. Hadn’t seen any signs since til today. This cub didn’t seem to mind me at all, snuffled for a bit, had a run around, all while I was stood a few feet away. It felt absolutely unreal.

Surprised the heron didn’t go for it…

That heron can’t even stop a real one standing right next to it and mugging it off

A lot of dragonflies at Wanstead Park yesterday. This black tailed skimmer was doing some good twitchy head bops.

Have you spotted any grass snakes when you’ve been there? I’ve yet to do so, but there are often videos posted up on local wildlife pages of them sunbathing or swimming in the lakes.

I haven’t! Didn’t know about that. Will keep an eye out - only ever seen one wild snake in the UK before. Saw some skylarks on the flats.

I can hear the skylarks from my garden right now.

The grass snakes tend to be around the Eastern end of the park, by the ornamental lakes/grotto area.

It’s really interesting to learn what wildlife is common in different areas of the UK. It was really common to see grass snakes sunbathing near the canal in the (mildly) rural area of Yorkshire where I grew up and currently live. But, never see foxes which are ten a penny in London.

The family cat would regularly catch young grass snakes which would then play dead for the cat to abondon which we’d then carry back to the canal

I’ve not seen any recently but I’ll try and grab some pics if people are up for it.
