• brown leather collared bomber jacket with a weird colourful logo on the breast
  • nice denim jacket with a tartan high-tog lining
  • thin short red waterproof, bit holey and needs replacing
  • long padded waterproof, bit worn but not so much that it needs replacing yet

need a big proper winter coat. haven’t had one for years to be honest, normally just pair up one of the top two with a really really thick hooded woolly jumper.

1x Black leather biker jacket (70s, very heavy leather)
1x Black leather bomber jacket with removable shearling collar and zip out fleece lining
1x Swedish army overcoat - double breasted, black leather with sheepskin collar
1x black denim jacket to go under one of the other coats if it’s really cold
1x sheepskin coat (not black or leather)
1x 50s doublebreasted blue check wool overcoat (quite long, also not black or leather)

But to be honest I’ll probably just wear the biker jacket with layers until it gets properly cold. The Swedish Army coat needs repairs to the collar (and probably the rest of it as well tbh).

Coat update

Upgraded to this bad boy at the weekend:

Cosy as hell (apparently it has a down lining), and importantly it has enough storage. Why do loads of parka-style coats have no inner pockets? Madness.

Pros:

  • Warm as fuck
  • But quite soft and light
  • Waterproof - tested it in the rain yesterday
  • Fuzzy collar that acts as a scarf when zipped up
  • Detachable hood
  • Elasticated inner sleeve bits at the end of arms
  • Big outer pockets
  • Zippy glove pockets
  • Left and right inside pockets
  • Two lower inside pockets with popper/velcro fastening, for smaller things like packets of biscuits

Cons:

  • Inside pockets are slightly too far down
  • Hood is slightly big - keeps rain well away, but restricts peripheral vision a bit
  • £180

Very impressed. Don’t sleep on M&S coats, is what I’m saying.

I basically have no winter coats. Need one to wear with my suit to work and something for smart / casual wear. Any suggestions?

if it’s for wearing with a suit/and for casual yr best bet is an overcoat or mac, won’t be waterproof mind you

something like this maybe?

Overcoat is definitely the one for a suit. Those ASOS ones look like trash quality though. Only 52% wool? Fuck off.

Uniqlo has a decent one: http://www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/goods/173000

Right, which one of these shall I get…

3 is really on trend
4 is better than 1
2 are you bothered about the funnel neck? i always feel daft in oversized cos/minimalist inspired pieces because i don’t think they go with ‘normal’ clothes. think those people who do it like it’s a uniform probably have the right idea (you know, head-to-toe beiges and greys, oversized culottes with big white shirt or army surplus stuff, cos jacket and always a margaret howell or apc tote bag)

Yes totally know what you mean about cos but I have another similar cos coat and I just do it up so you can only see tights and shoes and none of my clothes so it looks ok, kind of like a nice dress. I think I’m going to go for 3

don’t go for 3. fuck on trend!

I like the shape of it too. Why 4? I need to try them on really

gonna be honest. I know nothing about fashion, but to me - it’s a nicely cut jacket*. quite like the buttons and the red lining is sweet as fuck

  • @penoid will know what I mean by this

wow. you’re very pretty. coats are quite nice too

5: Couple of complete knockout pleathers, couple of pretty dashing denim (black, blue), and a waxed one with a hood that I feel looks a bit too football managerish to really feel confident wearing.
Oh and a big long black wool coat that I wouldn’t wear outside of a funeral or trial or something so that doesn’t count.

Really like putting it on indoors for a pose though because it’s posh and Italian with flattering shoulders. Voila.

bit grainy that. Just imagine it’s good.

Where did you take that photo, the Louvre?

Nice coat though.

I have one very bad, very old digital camera.

I’m in the market for a new coat. Either want a brightly coloured arctic explorer style parka thing… or something extremely technical… waterproof AND insulated.

Anyone able to recommend something like the above?

It’s one of those things that I think of doing to be organised: buy a coat in summer sale, it’ll be cheap. Never do.
