Physio tomorrow. Hoping to get his blessing to start running again. Or to recommend that I get two pig knees or something.

I try to do a few rounds of the basic Sun Salutation every morning, but I feel sad I’m not as bendy as I used to be.

I had half an M&S swiss roll yesterday for pudding after my veggie burrito.
I think I’ll have the other half today.
Then on Thursday I’ll try to get through an entire swiss roll.

Wish me luck.

That sounds like it would be quite soothing in the morning.

I used to be proper into it but have lost the bug for the last 8 months since the yoga studio opened up a partner gym nearby and thats included in my extortionate monthly rate!

I’ve signed up for a candlelit yoga class on Sunday night so hoping that’ll get me back into the mood!

Hmm.

Not sure about anyone else but people that say stuff like this really irritate me at the best of times let alone in January. It’s just so odd that it’s frowned upon to keep fit and take care of yourself these days and you should be shamed for it. No one here is shaming people for eating shit loads of crap or laying on their arses all day yet if we did, that would be awful.

You probably find this meme pretty lol too

Yeah it is quite nice, and as it’s the same thing every time, it doesn’t really matter if your brain’s not awake.

I get annoyed with myself that I can’t touch the floor/hug my knees with completely straight legs on no 3 three though.

(Not even gonna attempt the versions that include a chaturanga after the plank)

Sure okay, I wasn’t meaning to shame you, was just meaning to be silly. Not sure how you can feel ashamed for exercise tbh?

Not everyone is privileged enough to inherit a metabolism as fast as yours still is.

Gunna be running 60-75km a week for the next 12 weeks which will mean I don’t have time for much else. Will keep playing (slightly less than currently) football and giving my girlfriend an occasional hammering at badminton

The pubs of london certainly don’t appreciate Theo’s fast metabolism

I know you’re just trying to be silly but it’s honestly everywhere. I’m not aiming this at you btw, it’s just triggered me off what I’ve seen online everywhere.

People are like LOL january diet and it’s like a picture of cheese or booze or whatever. It’s just so odd that wanting to keep fit and be healthy is the butt of the joke at this time of year.

I actually quite enjoyed going to the gym for exercise but I could never improve my muscles at all so it became a bit disheartening. These days I worry I’d kill myself with unexpected exercise like whatisface who wrote the Dragon tattoo novels.

tbf I think it’s mostly self-depricating, or at least that’s what I’ve always seen it as being

I can’t even touch the floor with my legs straight. I think it’s all about the compressions internally that it’s doing which is the part that is good for you on those kinds of poses.

I do love me a wind removing pose when I’ve got trapped wind

I see it as being a little dig at other people but that’s just my view then.

I think that’s a reaction more to media forcing the notion of diets down people’s throats and thus causing a normalisation of the idea that (a) you will have eaten more and worse food over Christmas (not convinced this is particularly the case nowadays) and (b) you should feel bad about this.

Obviously this overspills a bit into getting narky at friends going on about their gym use, I guess and that’s a shame. I don’t think keeping fit and healthy is necessarily the butt of anyone’s joke, although any person for whom a single interest is wildly consuming (equally, this isn’t aimed at you - I mean your total gym fiends) will get a certain amount of piss-taking from that, be they bikewankers, Goths, gamers or foodies, etc.

Make sure you build it up slowly. Assuming that you record all of your running on Strava, you’re averaging about 20km a week at the moment. Even if you cut down on football, it’s a different kind of exercise and you’ll need to take about 8 weeks to build up to that level.

Yeah I’m gunna basically run more but run slower. Like I’ve been doing pretty much everything at target marathon pace or quicker so far so my legs are always achey. So to get the necessary miles I’m gunna slow down for my normal runs through the week then do a fast 5k and a race pace long run each week

that seems a lot man!

Doing sport/exercise isn’t really about improving muscles though. Well, for some people it might be, but not for most, I don’t think.

It’s more about improving your body’s ability to allow you do do other things, to cope with age and injury, and to help your mental health.
